i agree this cloudy dull mild weather so boring would b ok if a bit of sun was thrown in dunno how people can enjoy this set up its depressin i want cold n snow to hurry upI hope so as I'm not the biggest fan of the dull quiet weather we have going on right now!
Come on snow or throw us some good severe gales in the south!!

very good post and well putYes I think that the lag time between this SSW event and effects on the ground so to speak are likely to be a couple of weeks at best, I believe we have to wait for a SSW to propogate down to lower levels and it makes sense to me if you think about it, it's a bit like taking a car journey, you don't reach your desired destination the moment you leave, you have to navigate your chosen route and will eventually reach your destination (destination cold and snowy) and there's lots of pitfalls along the way, your Sat Nav (GFS) will only start to show your destination once you get closer to it...same applies with the various models they can't pick up on a SSW event, that hasn't happened yet and so will only show the general destination as a big red blob over the place your going, only when you get cloe will the fine detail be pinned down (turn left, take the 3rd exit on the right...blah blah blah).
So with that in mind, I doubt we'll see much in the way of possible and probable outcomes of the coming SSW event for another 4-5 days, during which time I for one will be making the most of the dry weather and warmer temperatures , and will be doing some silly snow dances on the hills, far far away from prying eyes :-)

Il take a 3.5

100% agree with youHi Itsy,
You sound like you should be a moderator. You have made a valid comment on how this thread should be, i.e: very informative, detailed posts, so people like myself and others willing to learn can interact with others points, not the one liner, back biting, down right nit picking posts.
keep up the good work we need people like you. Happy New Year

Its something to do with ice crystals in the atomosphere reflecting of the moon i think

we got 3 decent snow events here in feb this year and it got very cold towards the end of the cold spell was -8 or somethingEC op at 192, elongated lp system to the east bringing in east to north-west winds over the UK, a rather rare synoptic in its alignment. Cold as well, with snow shrs on high ground in the north and north-east.
Indeed we must urge caution, but the net result was near record lows for many eastern and south-eastern parts of England, with some large snowfalls in the SE in early February. The effects of the SSW dramatically altered the NH pattern, ask Europe.

. I feel depressed now would like it to b like that lolLets all be positive,,,,,Just think how lucky we are to be avoiding cold frosty mornings, scrapping ice off windscreens, late night lamp post watching, kids out building snowman, weather forecasters saying "no end insight to deep freeze" Blue sky crisp frosty days, We are so lucky, [ depressed myself now]

I really hope we get an Atlantic block soon for the sake of all those in flooded areas esp this time of year 2
-
The MOD thread is a nightmare at the moment its like a battle of ego's the weather will do what it likes like i said before the weather controls the models not the other way round im just glad we aint got bbq type xmas we shouldget Harry Hill on the mod thread "Theres only one way to find out""FIGHT" lol
-
Bbc forecast had a grey gloomy morning for us today and its nice and sunny so even a forecast 24 hours out can b wrong
-
yeah same here Paul Hudson had temps of 6c and 7c then 4c for sat with sleetour local bbc news just showed 4-c at the end of the week with sleet or snow for high ground ??.Anyway the atlantic continues to gather strength and kick on.Are there to be any major changes short term?.It needs to be showing its hand asap
-
Its always the same in mod thread "theres cold showing in fi its not gna happen" " theres mild showing in fi its def gna happenLoads of wrist slashing occurring on the main thread this morning over a possible "blowtorch" (how I dislike that misleading phrase!) Xmas.
You just can't trust the models at more than 5 days. Remember, we were supposed to be experiencing blizzards this weekend if you believed the models 10 days ago, so why believe that in 10 days time it will be mild?
There's a good reason why most forecasts don't go beyond 5 days; it's one of the first things I learnt about weather!

yeah i got a feeling that something is gna happen this winter i want lots of snow like we had here in feb this year )We can wish can't we lol!! I reckon we will get a good dumping at some point this winter. I'm not bothered all that much about it being deep long lasting cold! Snow is what I want and lots of it.
