And your point is?
The risk for wildfires there must be a yearly occurrence. They do after all have 300 days of sunshine. Surely climate change has made no difference to their risk of wildfires.

We will have to disagree then, without those extreme conditions the situation in Rhodes would not be as serious as it is. Of course they are the issue.
Rhodes is always tinder dry in summer.

I like this idea. I’m sure it has its drawbacks but it seems like a good solution. I can’t see the human race wanting to be restricted to short journeys what with all the hobbies etc that people have me included. It would be a boring life if we all had to stay within a 20mins radius of where we were born. It will become the new class divide if we go down that root. We all know the rich and famous will continue doing as they please whilst telling us what we should be doing.

WWW.MOTORSPORTMAGAZINE.COMF1 is set to use sustainable fuel by 2026 – but, thanks to former Mercedes tech chief Paddy Lowe's Zero Petroleum, it's already being used elsewhere- 2

You're correct January 2013 was far snowier than 2021 for sure!
Except for Suffolk. 2021 was better and longer that the BFTE for snow

I wish sometimes SSW did not exist, because soon as it turns mild posts appear proclaiming with out a SSW event winter is over.
My opinion is way to much emphasis is placed on them its just one piece in a 1,000000 and hugely complicated piece jigsaw.
I don’t understand this either. I grew up in the 80’s and saw some amazing winters. Very lucky to be able to remember walking on top of 6ft snow drifts with my family as a lad on the main road from our village in the sun in between showers. Then as the 90s hit we had winter 91 where we had to finish school early due to the threat of being cut off. After that time until 2009 we had only small amounts of snow with the occasional long bout of faux cold due to high pressure inversion. Including 2009 we’ve had a pretty decent run in our coastal corner. I had almost given up on it until 2009. So we’ve had:
dec 2009/Jan 2010
dec 2010
Feb 2012
march 13
dec 17
march 18
feb 21 (which was better for snow and longevity than 2018).
so for me I don’t know what all the fuss is about needing ssw’s

Those who like that high summer feeling combined with heat and sunshine make the most of this week coming, generally the second week of August marks the end of high summer feel and we then experience the inevitable late summer feeling, in some years, indeed many a year this point of the summer doesn't bring with it sustained heat and warmth... the chances of such decline markedly, after the very dry sunny hot July, I see this week as a maximum bonus.
One September not all that long ago can’t remember exactly we had near 30 degrees sept 30th and the 1st of October and the way this summer has been I wouldn’t mind betting we will see and extended summer through autumn even if we do have a temporary break down at some point

Solar Terrestrial Activity Report

A big uptick in solar activity at the wrong time is my thought on why it’s all gone wrong. I know some will laugh but I have a hunch it makes a difference when a sudden change happens to the output of the sun- 4

Whilst many on here want the low to be a bit further East (to enhance the snow risk), has anyone thought about the risk of east coast flooding that will bring?
This depression will enter the North Sea at just the correct angle for 'a North Sea surge' if it deepens rapidly enough.
Yes I do remember the 1952 event.
MIA
December 13 equally as big a surge for some on the east coast. Well pointed out definitely one to note.

Agreed. The small scale finer points will definitely be different nearer the time. But for now happy to see the greeny heights consistently shown. That low on the other side of the pond looks to be disrupting and would likely throw some energy under the block and hopefully lower heights into Iberia?

I haven't been this excited about the weather in a very long time.
Our summer had only just started here in east anglia. I was hoping for good warmth until the end of the month at least

Indeed. It’s rare enough to get snow in April as it is, let alone to coincide with Easter.
Interestingly, had Easter 2008 been the first weekend in April, the snow would’ve been more noteworthy here. Likewise, had Easter 2006 come a week earlier, some would’ve had a white Easter.
I’ve seen two white Easters in my time both with falling snow. 2008 was decent. But I’ve never seen falling snow at Christmas in 40 years. We had snow on the ground 2010 but the thaw was already well set in.

Here on the east coast it’s been a really good cold spell. 25/30cm snow which lasted until the rain came in last night. 7 days of sledging with the kids. Snow depth was maintained pretty well over that time. Hope for another next winter.

Anybody else getting roads blocked by new snow drifts as the wind picks up?

Well, in that case, I'll go with my ability to distinguish what's frozen solid from what isn't. And, anyway, I wasn't commenting the temperatures, in other parts of East Anglia?
Starting to get icicles off the porch so it must be melting but cold enough to build icicles

Mid February the new promised land..... I’m going to make myself look silly soon. I actually think mid February is our best chance now

Wow this winter from an IMY point of view is horrendous. The green eyed monster has hit hard today. All those snow pictures! Congratulations if you got some. Watched the radar all day thinking slowly getting here. abc all rain arhhhh. Roll on summer I’m warn out waiting for snow to appear. Until the winter killer Azores/Iberian high pressure does one there’s no chance of anything non marginal for the east coast.
