  1. Don't know about "thunderstorm" per se.

I know that the NW radar tracks lightning, so that can be used. I know the IOW weather site has a good lightning detection system that I use during the summer.

I also know that there was a product that the french meto were testing years ago to track thunderstorms, it was great, what happened to I dont know because it was just what was needed.

Be interesting to hear if something like that had been resurected, I used it a lot.

Thanks for that information, Yes I did mean lightning detector, If you do find another site apart from IOW, Would you kindly let me know,,,,,,,,Thanks
  2. I've just been out in the garden for a few hours, removed a tree and done the usual weeding and tyding up. The sun came out, quite hazy but it felt nice though.

I'm also about to buy a brand new pond pump as my other two packed up. sad.png

The pond looked like this last Summer ..

It's not looking like that at the moment, quite the opposite!

Like photo of your pond from last year, Heron cleared my pond, Revamped it with plenty hideaways for fish,
  3. Cloudy and 4.1°C.

I keep reading posts everywhere about some 'Spring warmth' next week .. parts of the country have seen 12's and 13's back in January and February, it's hardly what i would call Spring warmth, especially in between periods of rain or showers.

You are right,, Very standard early March weather, Even if temps rise above average for early March, rain and winds will not make it feel warm. One thing though the nights are slowly getting lighter. If we get any bright afternoons will feel much better and give chance to get outside,

  4. People were actually moaning about the 1976 summer heat, When it finally did break down and rain, there were people out in street with joyous relieve, I remember the first smell of rain hitting the parched ground, There was violent storm that hit Birmingham area on 13th sept,,,,,Will never forget that storm, Spent my life on fire and Ambulance service, seen many incidents, but that storm remains memory for me,, Attended local park where horse and rider struck by lightning, neither survived strike, My caution of thunderstorms remain with me to this day

  5. http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/drought-of-1976-brought-standpipes-and-shared-baths-478513.html Just for interest. Have read of this article about the wonderful summer of 1976, Remember my neighbour out at 2am in morning watering there garden, It was like SAS operation.done in silence with hooded torch, If caught.people faced £400 fine and being ostracized,

  6. 7°C today but it's still dull and crap.

I have a funny feeling that March is going to crap as well, signs pointing to it being cold & wet. I think the bodes well for later on though, and perhaps Summer.

I do believe in the thought that if you get rid of the rubbish now then it will be better later on. If you're locked in to certain patterns then they eventually have to change, the signs look good to me for a half decent Summer.

It's only speculation of course.. smile.png

Seems we will have more unsettled weather next week, Lots hope we can get half decent late spring/early summer,,,,,,,,,,
  7. Will someone please put me out of misery and either pay for me to move to the Canaries or tell me when Spring is coming?

I am sick to the back teeth of grey days, black nights, being freezing cold all of the time and feeling rubbish.

That bright orange thing was in the sky for a few days a week or 2 ago, but I haven't seen it for ages. sad.png

My cleaner (not as grand as it sounds...lol) told me today that it is going to snow at the weekend. is this true? She is brilliant and knows lots of stuff about stuff.

Carol Kirkwood moonlighting ?????acute.gif Think we treanding slightly mildier and may have some sunny spells, till mid week

I check FlightRadar24.com and it tells me where it is.

    post-7340-0-81371500-1361989714_thumb.jp

It's flying over Exeter. I'm situated just to the south of Salisbury.

It might just be me, but I think that's brilliant. Exeter's miles away.

Here's the other one, looking North West.

  9. Inshore fishing boats, sustain our fisheries, More handline caught fish on sale now, The factory ships and indiscriminate trawling been issues with fish stocks, All down to demand for cheap food, Most fish are preditors and quite happily eat each other, Not a fairytale world out there,,,,,,,,,Guys go out on daily basis in all weathers, doing a tough job, Only buy sustainable fish from our local fisherman, Hope the quotas policy will change January 2014, The amount of fish disgarded is just stupid policy,,,,,,,,,,,Ask Cornish Snow about his passion for protection of Bass stocks, guarantee it's foremost in his mind
