  1. I would suspect the chances are the same as many other locations near the Pennines tonight; indeed there will be some degree of precipitation although the temperatures do remain in question ... I don't expect more than a few cm and wouldn't be surprised if there is no covering this time. Still looking decent though for Sunday Night, despite this though, unfortunately, this chapter of the cold spell looks to be over by Monday except for of course the highest of hills. Speaking of the 'highest of hills', there is no doubt that the Peaks, Pennines, NYM and parts of the Lakes will see a good covering (there is no way that there will be a battleground between sleet/snow/rain). Odds on for tomorrow's match at Boundary not to be on?!!!
  2. I fully understand this view, however we have to understand that the models so far don't even go up to half way through December! We can't ask for cold right through, sometimes there has to be a let up ... but the models at the moment of course don't run as far as beyond mid month. Hence, we are already slap bang in the middle of -4 nights and +2 days ... so what more can you ask for except from a nice little snap to kick the season off?
  3. Just depends if Oldham council are interested in doing there job and gritting the roads like they usually fail to do.
  4. I've never known fog like this, it is so dense and it's absolutely freezing.
  5. According to the Met Office, most of it should fall as snow overnight before turning to sleet briefly
  6. I remember all too well heavy widespread snowfall was forecast for the 4th or 5th but most of it fell as rain, but it still stayed cold for a few days more until about the 10th before what I believe was a rather quiet and average like December with no more wintry conditions until January
  7. Thank you very much! Always exciting to join in with the discussion especially at a time like this. A fair few members from the North on here may well remember the 2nd (or 1st it might have been) of December 2008, where a cold shot similar to this resulted in a covering for the usual places including a widespread covering around the Pennines and Cumbria of around 8cm ... Perhaps tonight's forecast snowfall might just provide something similar? I have light snow forecast here from 2am until 6am, hopefully the thaw won't be too quick in the day and at least it won't cause too much disruption. That cold snap stands out for me because it was so localized as I said ... there was nothing lower down in Manchester. Still it was a very decent fall
  8. I understand this is heading slightly off topic, but I believe 68/69 was also the subject of when the Emley Moor TV mast in Yorkshire collapsed due to a mass build up of ice on it.
  9. Well, someone looking to navigate the Huddersfield Narrow Canal today might be disappointed as it has remained frozen today as well as the locks. Let's hope it thaws out soon. Milder but wetter weather looking probable Monday before fluctuating temperatures kick in
  10. On the west side of the Pennines we do get precipitation forecast in the early hours tomorrow morning, forecast as snow here but rain lower down
