Munich has closed all tourist attractions, Christmas markets and transport along with shutting its main airport until Sunday following heavy snow

Bavaria’s capital has had its heaviest snow fall in around 20 years

Amazing scenes. Much of Czechia also snowed under, some regions have declared a state of emergency. Some pics of my town (only 10cm or so here) from social media. I’m in London, typically. But am off home tomorrow. Good start to winter 👍🏻

  2. Autumn has flown by, a very mixed season. I enjoyed September, it then became super wet and dull though and there was a distinct lack of the foggy, frosty conditions that I enjoy. Some cold and wet snow during the last week upped the excitement a bit. I’ll give the season a 6/10.

I consider late November here to be winter. In any case I'm just venting about the terrible luck which has continued from last winter, as is my prerogative.

At least we have the whole winter ahead of us to enjoy. It’s been a wintry week in the Czech Republic with a lot of snow falling, but like in Slovakia, temperatures have been a bit marginal and the ground is still too warm with hard frosts lacking, so far. Shame as could have been notable. Next week looks cold with nighttime temperatures falling to -10°C or lower and some ice days forecast too

Am back in the UK for work and it’s a chilly but beautiful day today with plenty of sunshine

  4. A lot of snow has fallen overnight and today here in Czechia, unfortunately temperatures have hovered mainly just above freezing so despite accumulation, there’s also been a lot of melting. Now it’s falling below freezing so snow should start sticking more, but it’s very wet everywhere. Bit of a shame as could’ve been pretty memorable this early in the season

  5. Grey day here, a couple of degrees above freezing so any laying snow has disappeared but warnings are out for possibly more than 7cm overnight locally. Some very dense patches of fog around now which I love. I certainly don’t love it dark just after 4pm

Impressive system and it looks like it will curve around the edge of eastern Europe and up to southern Scandinavia, but much weaker. Another system which passes over the UK tonight could bring more snow to Germany, Czechia, (@stainesbloke) then Ukraine and Belarus. Not a typical start to the winter across many parts of Europe!

A very interesting end to autumn / start to winter indeed. We’ve already had several instances of snow falling and accumulating here in Czechia over the weekend, but temperatures have crept above freezing by day so it doesn’t last that long. Plus there haven’t been any hard frosts to cool the ground down. But warnings are out for tonight and tomorrow for >7cms of snow locally

  7. Blowing a hoolie here this evening, very noisy. Tomorrow looks like the last day of average temperatures before a big change to much colder weather. Some snow is forecast, so that’s quite exciting, would love to see some clear skies and crisp early winter sunshine too. Been very cloudy lately and it’s beginning to set off my SAD

  8. Very mixed day here. Grim morning with loads of rain in 3°C temperatures, but that cleared away around lunchtime and the rest of the day was sunnier and very pleasant, barring one heavy downpour later in the afternoon. Then a thick fog formed after dark, which has now cleared as a breeze has picked up, and now it’s 8°C

  9. Lovely autumn day here, mainly sunny (so far), light winds and currently 8°C. Could do with a spell of high pressure as the ground is sodden, but am cracking on with garden work. Have hardly had any seasonal mist, fog and frost here so far, which has been a bit disappointing.

Not sure where to put this, but might be of interest to some, don't mind it being moved to where it should be.

It's a hydro chart for the UK, showing saturation.

Definitely could do with a few weeks of high pressure
