    That doesn't make happy reading

Might make Scotland's winters a bit colder, not as much "modification across warm seas". Not sure I'd want to experience the other possible consequences though.

Yukky day here too, 2.4C, grey and misty, light drizzle, melting of any lying snow. 8f winter isn't going to arrive properly then yes, spring please.

Grumpy kids as a result, no snow to play in and too wet to go out.  Perfectly timed midterm break 🙄

Frequently used to use this weekend to go skiing, usually over to Nevis Range as its not a day trip from here. Not managed that for a few years though.

Still definitely snow that's falling here but struggling to accumulate much as it's marginal temperature wise. I suspect our extra height is making the difference l, and that in Alford itself it's more likely to be a sleety mess.

XC rarely shows snow for here, even when it's actually snowing, so I'm always baffled by the competitive XC watch you guys indulge in.

Cos it's fun, as long as you treat it as fantasy snowfall levels, as it changes every run.

Decent weekend here, dry, sometimes sunny, bit breezy at times. High of around 7.5C both days, loss only a degree or two below that. Looking colder from mid week, but despite what XC weather says at times, no idea how much snowfall we'll get.

Apologies. I still haven't figured out how to do a proper quote.

You can still do a proper quote of sorts, just hold to highlight a word, drag out the selection, then hopefully you get a pop up quote button you can select. It can be awkward, but works.

Don't know how I ended up with two quotes in the same post though.

  5. As above, bit of a meh week, nothing awful but nothing interesting either. I did have to scrape the car windscreen yesterday morning, that's the highlight of the week so far.

Today is what my mum would call a "good drying day" as its mild (8.5C), windy and occasionally sunny. Washing is therefore out on the whirly.

Edit: second week of Feb looking potentially interesting but I'm holding fire on getting excited.

  6. @Norrance Ouch, don't know what'll hurt more, the injury or the bill.

Booked channel tunnel crossings for start of April in the hope of getting the motorhome down to the Alps. If the snow holds out then we want to get skiing for the first time since the Xmas immediately before the first Covid lockdown. That seems a ridiculously long time for something I love doing so much.

If the snow isn't looking good then we'll change plans. I'm finally getting my wife on board with the idea of going with the flow with the motorhome, and not having to have everything booked months in advance.

No damage to report here but did see that someone had 2 touring caravans blow away overnight on the Suie Rd so it was as lively as it sounded at 3am.

Still pretty blowy out there now but at least the sun's out.

Saw that ourselves on Facebook this morning and the wife texted the guy who either owns them, or at least who's land they are on. He owns the small paddock behind our house too. No idea why he had them there, but they've been there a while and never seemed to move. Was surprised they went last night as the wind was from the south and one ended up on road, which is south of the caravans.

Apart from that I was surprised at how little evidence of storm damage I saw on the commute to Westhill this morning. Surprised at how few Aberdeenshire schools were affected too, about 5 or 6 closed as without power, not a lot with school transport affected either.

Well, I've battened down the hatches and filled the generator up with petrol.

    Already pretty breezy oot!

Going to fill the buckets in a bit to ensure we have some water for flushing loos if the electric goes out. Water is pumped from a cistern, if all else fails we can still lift the lid and dip a bucket in. Considered a generator, or battery backup, the last time we were out of power for days but could never quite justify the need.

  9. Congratulations @Northern Strathwe'll let you off with the lack of posts, but o ly this time. If the next child arrives during a snowy spell we'll expect you to still be on duty here.😜 My youngest finishes S6 this year, so no more kids at school, can't believe it.

3.7C here just after midnight, seems strange after days on end of sub zero temperatures. Excessively windy weather I could really do without.

Well today is time to go back to North Yorkshire day, looks like there’s been a at least a couple of inches overnight so far.
Very windy and much warmer nearest weather station showing nearly 1c.

You get all the benefits of the snow too, without having to go through the horrible mess of the thaw. Glad you had such a good week.

  11. Windy here too and temp is currently 1.8C, having got back above freezing around 3am. Only a thin covering of snow overnight and the current showers seem to be dying out just to our west.

So that appears to be that then. It was a fairly good event here, better than I expected, but not in the 'epic' class, not by the standard of these parts anyway. Pity it was largely confined to Northern areas.

On to the search for the next 'event' then.
