  1. Summer 2011 had a lack of uncomfortable nights. It was the coolest summer minimum wise since 1972.
  2. I would say the cold equivalent of this event was the last week of March 2013 in recent times. Both events were just 18 months apart. Shows the thermal lag in the climate very well. The sun is actually higher and the day longer in the last week of March than in the last of September and yet there is about 20+C between the two events.
  3. 30th September 2011 1st October 2011 BBC news report on the October record falling

  5. It's been a pretty decent summer thus far. No real proper heatwave yet but the weather it has been largely decent.
  6. It looked like it was turning into a lovely late afternoon when suddenly heavy showers moved in
  7. Oops! Neighbour watered their garden 20 minutes ago and now have a torrential downpour.
  8. To the west, there is hardly a cloud in the sky. Looking to the east and it's dark an threatening.
  9. Brilliant blue skies and hardly a cloud to the west, black threatening skies to the east. It's a been a real struggle this year to get a storm in the Greater Manchester area.
  10. The displays of 2009 were the best that I have seen in this country. The 18th June 2009 one was amazing
  11. July 1999 was a warm month with a CET of 17.7C. It was also a very dry July generally and one of the driest Julys of the 20th Century. There were local variations in rainfall totals due to thunderstorms. Here's some rainfall data for that month Stornoway Rainfall: 70mm (97%) Aberdeen Rainfall: 48mm (81%) Durham Rainfall: 12mm (23%) Manchester Rainfall: 10mm (16%) Cambridge Rainfall: 25mm (57%) RAF Lyneham Rainfall: 6mm (11%) Heathrow Rainfall: 9mm (19%) Swansea Rainfall: 18mm (25%) Belfast Rainfall: 39mm (62%) Forecasts from this month http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWbt7RniF2ao1-I6iNNnQHL_Pke3HQWJp The word "dry" features heavily in this month in my diary entries.
  12. A bit like this. A shower dying out. Strange sort of day, convection never seem to get going around here and yet about 30 miles away there was a storm that seem to keep going and going.
  13. That cell near Malpas, Cheshire is something. It's hardly moved. Must be localised flooding in that area.
  14. Looked as though it was going to take off but never got going
  15. Cumulus development underway. Can see the cell off the Fylde coast.
  16. Lovely day after clearance of frontal cloud.
  17. I like the extremes. The lingering twilight and the noctilucent clouds of June and the long shadows that are cast in December.
  18. Summer 2004 wasn't that good. August was very wet, one of the wettest Augusts on record and mid June to mid July was pretty mediocre. Manchester Summer Index1984: 2711994: 2402004: 197
  19. July 1994 was a pretty decent summer month. A CET of 18.0C and it was on the dry side for much of England and Wales. There was also some decent Spanish plumes which brought thunderstorms in places. The 12th July 1994 was a very hot day in the east with 34C at Lakenheath. 20. And there you go! http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climate/uk/summaries/anomactsLooking at the chart, London area has missed out and central east Dorset up to Wiltshire as well.
