  1. First opportunity to see the comet looks around the 12th. The great news is that we will have an Arctic airmass at the time which means clarity won't be an issue.
  2. I don't think March 1947 at any stage got uppers that low anyway, so one could argue this is one feature of this spell that could surpass March 1947.
  3. Monday could produce a rare -ve March CET mean. The last occasion was 4th March 2006. Since 1970 5th March 1970 7th March 1970 8th March 1970 9th March 1970 4th March 1971 5th March 1971 6th March 1971 20th March 1985 1st March 1986 3rd March 1986 2nd March 2001 3rd March 2001 3rd March 2006 4th March 2006
  4. Looks as Washington DC has missed out again. A kick in the teeth for snow lovers in the capital. They not had a decent fall of snow for at least 2 years and the forecasts were suggesting a decent fall. Instead, it just wasn't cold enough and they missed out again. Just shows we are not the only ones to miss out.
  5. I suspect many members who lived in Wales, western Scotland and England will remember this event. On the evening of the 3rd of July, severe thunderstorms exploded across many western areas because of a trough after a day of heat with temperature reaching 32C in St Helier. The storms caused extensive flooding and large rainfall totals in a number of places with Cardiff recording 67mm, Pembroke Dock 74mm, Aberporth 42.4mm. There were amazing and fierce lightning displays, lightning set fire to a church in Havant, Hants, that many people will never forget Here's some more info on John Mason's site http://www.geologywales.co.uk/storms/storm01.htm http://www.geologywales.co.uk/storms/storm02.htm Wetterzentrale's archive lightning chart for that day The forecast on the day of the storms 3rd July 2001 Radar footage of the previous evening storms 4th July 2001
  6. Accuweather on the potential European cold snap http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-blogs/andrews/europe-cold-snow-to-follow-taste-of-spring/7528632
  7. The GFS 0z op run has pockets of -14C air over England and Wales during the early hours of Monday. As for UKMO, well just look at the latest forecast Outlook for Friday to Sunday: Generally cloudy and breezy with outbreaks of rain or drizzle throughout. Hill fog likely too in many areas. Temperatures near normal at first but getting progressively colder. Issued at: 0400 on Wed 6 Mar 2013 So the Met Office are suggesting it is going to get colder.
  8. Crikey, no comment of the 0z outputs? GFS mean shows virtually the whole of British Isles in -10C air at Sunday/Monday midnight. How often do you see that let alone nearly mid March?
  9. It is but not sure what that has got to do with one final shot of snow? My point is we do don't know. If let's say it occurs as the models are hinting then we could still have another possibility after that. Parts of the south did see lying snow under Met Office rules in early April 2008. There was the famous late April 1981 snow event. That was my point.
  10. Why one final shot? We have had notable snowfalls in May that was lying at low levels and at the end of the April in the far south.
  11. Forecast from 9th May 2001 David Braine predicted showery outbreaks of rain that night with thunder here and there What actually happened was an area of severe thunderstorms breaking out which woke David Braine up Forecast from 10th May 2001 FAX Chart Lightning chart
  12. This would be nice to see soon although the east coast might not agree, 19th March 2005
