  1. I've seen some very distressed hairstyles this morning. The poor drowned rats out there with total umbrella failure are also suffering some of the worst 'bad hair days' ever. Has anyone seen a flying toupe yet ? But the postman is wearing shorts, even today.
  2. Could be a chilly night chez Fluid. The duvet was being aired earlier today, wind got up and blew it away. Has been recovered but splattered with mud, its now down the dry cleaners for remedial works. Big test of my outhouse roof repairs is underway - sounds like the wind is trying to rip it to bits...
  3. At what point are we allowed to throw our towel out of the pram ? When everyone's angry about being some innocent fun lover having a post deleted and March is here and we still haven't seen any snow?
  4. Yes and from what I hear it may be time to dust off the spreadsheet and wind up the computer for the snow depth cup. All may not be lost (but probably is)
  5. Went jogging . Bit cold out but it wasn't windy or frosty. Something to do with dewpoints I expect. This forum has the best software of all the forums I frequent. There's a great cross section of people, from all walks of life - the weather experts, council professionals, business owners, students and professionals who can provide a valuable input, not necessarily about the weather, but how to deal with its effects and what's going on out there when the weather gets tough on us. All in a very humorous chatty way.
  6. Hi Damp, windswept southerners So, here we go again. Another week, another soaking and having bits of our houses blown into the distance while we mop up. Across the street, a TV arial swings gently in the morning breeze from a stout chimney, suspended by a thread of co-axial. Later in the week it might be in the front garden. Anywhoo, glad you had a great party CK, hope the checkout process goes smoothly (always a stressful moment I find). I am claiming the first barbeque of the year. As it was largely dry, our South African friends lit up, got the tinnies flowing and choons was pumpin'. Chilly outside though. That followed an eye candy party on Saturday during which skinny eastern european females partied delicately, sashaying slinkily around an expensive home in Wimbledon. Dont know how I got home. But I made it. Battenning down now for the impending onslaught Oh and in common with a few others on here, we have guinea pigs. Had to rescue one from under the shed on Sunday morning. Felt heroic. Probably wasn't. Have a good day !
  7. Hi all Along with many of you, woke up to the sound of a howling gale and rain smashing into the bedroom window. And yet today we are greeted with the most beautiful sunshine. The outhouse i repaired with new roof sheets is still going strong- the guinea pigs seem happy enough, Nibbles and Hercules are packing on the pounds as they grow into adolescents.
  8. crap weather. I started a new job, good mrs got home today, said she lost hers. double crap
  9. I'm enjoying reading the positive upturns many on here are experiencing. On the other hand there's the awful weather which is depressing. Having been stuck indoors all week, i'm having a site visit in Kent today. Looks like i might get it done before all hell breaks loose. Have a good POETS day
  10. There is some old property and families have lived on the Levels for decades , centuries and it deserves to be looked after. Ie deserves land drainage. As i said earlier, the green lobby and its habitat protection has got an excess of power. Dredging channels is maintenance, not destruction. End of .
  11. I lay upon a grassy bankMy hands were all a quiverI slowly undid her suspender beltAnd her leg fell in the river.- a poem by Sir Paul McCartney (Old, but its about a river, so I beg this is on topic )
  12. The house insurance renewal 'invitation' has arrived. Last year a very reasonable £154 buildings and contents This year £443. Oh dear. And the broker says only one company will quote, they dont know why. But we do live near a watercourse.... , but not in the flood area shaded part of the EA risk zone. Maybe insurers are running scared.... PS this is weather related
  13. I have 5 degrees outside 22 degrees in my front room So I will stick with the latter. Rayning in Raynes Park. Still.
  14. Hole template, stencils, erasing shield, rotring pens 0.7, 0.35 and 0.18, still got em all somewhere. Didn't have an electric rubber, though, just endless scratching out on film with razor blades - loads of mistakes. Then when I started work there was the Friday afternoon sprint to Kall Kwik printers for the dyelines before the post went at 6pm. What a nightmare, I remember even jamming the door open so that they couldn't close the shop because we were running late. Even found some of my structural detailing course work from 1984/5 in Mum and Dad's loft recently. It was really good to look over it. All rubbish now of course. Is it still raining?
  15. I remember leaning over the A0 board too, in my yoof. I stayed in civils Edit: its probably raining
  16. Agreed, provided that the subsoil is permeable. Around the River Parret - I recall from my flood alleviation studies - it is quite high permeability
  17. Fitting wipers - Now that would be great and the sort of stupid experiment I would get up to in the shed. I used to wear contacts when I rode my motorbike on my commute everyday, but I think falling flat on my face when out jogging is much more healthy than wearing contacts
  18. Indeed, a light touch is all moderation requires, to nudge in the direction required, if at all. IMHO, of course
  19. Have been out for my 20 minute run slog around the streets, and its really cold rain (or is that mild sleet?) out there. Feel better after that, having WFH all day. Drank my wine before I went out. Not a good move - together with rain soaked, misted up specs I was lucky not to fall flat on my face
  20. Very interesting, didn't know about the desalination being the only potable supply. Very expensive and as I understand it, they need to invest heavily to keep it running. But in dry climate of course it has to be an option where groundwater isn't viable.
