  1. I think its just happened for the first time this winter! Someone's moaned about the gritters not being out !
  2. Awaking from my gutbusting dinner and champagne stupor, I wish you all a great Christmas and healthy new year. Still quite sozzled and now trying to understand the latest prognosis for snow in the next few days... Certainly the paranoid schizophrenics in the mod thread lately haven't helped, apart from a handful of posters who really do know their stuff. Thanks go to them and I will keep lurking :-)
  3. Hello all. Just risen from my hibernation away from this friendly forum. Its been an interesting year with a pretty enjoyable summer. But now I am back for the snow cup!
  4. wooo hooo rock n roll, a book for ramblers (how old do I feel? I bought that book in 2000 when I was young) Have a great weekend, see you in the countryside ! Need to step up my training for a 20 miler on Dartmoor at the end of June...
  5. yup. getting walloped now. First time in 5 years I have heard my car alarm go off, and its just the thunder and lightning
  6. First clap of thunder here that I can remember for ages; radar shows London getting a wallop in an hour or two
  7. Well another stunning day! Not much cloud here, but after 2 (or possibly more, who's counting) large glasses of cheap tempranillo and falling asleep in the garden, I may have missed them. Am I bovverred?
  8. Hi Reefseeker, I started from the Horseshoe Clump carpark , around Esher Common, West End Heath about 2 hrs total at a fairly brisk non stop pace. Its a walk from this book (number 24). A very scenic bit on the banks of the River Mole http://www.amazon.co.uk/In-Around-London-Walks-Pathfinder/dp/0711710554/ref=sr_1_43?ie=UTF8&qid=1400448810&sr=8-43&keywords=pathfinder+guide+books
  9. I've got 26 degrees in the shade of the garden. Could this be right ? Glad I did my 7 mile country walk round the Esher area much earlier this morning in the cooler temps. Beautiful scenes, Britain really shines when it wants to.
  10. Yes I agree that there has been an odd pong about. With 7 portions of fruit and veg inside us all since earlier in the week when it became compulsory, we should not be surprised. I read the other day in the comments section of the BBC news website: The only fruit I eat is water melons. 5 a day was quite a challenge but getting outside of 7 a day is going to involve giving up full-time work.
  11. Checking before our check out of the hotel at Zell am See tomorrow morning. Due back at 14.30 and wondering what the weather will surprise us with. Had some snow in the mountains for a few days, a poor winter for all though by many accounts. Snow machines have kept the resorts open and running very well (typical for Austria) So at least i found out what snow feels like Still cant get the hang of photo uploading on an iPhone :/
  12. Hello all from Zell am see, Austria Snow top up forecast for Friday, Sat, Sun, Mon..... Yawn, Tues, Weds Hope you're all ok there Edit: not clever enough to get photo right way up
  13. I can understand where you're coming from. Last night was unquestionably the worst storm of this Winter for us. There was no structural damage to houses around us after the previous ones, but noticeable this time. Roofs especially. Yet not even our bins blew over. Wind direction must have been different, so your trampoline could have been in the perfect location to act as a sail where previously it wasn't. And there, your honour, I offer my evidence
  14. Been out for a blustery walk to the local parks. Our next door neighbour has lost 8 ridge tiles from their roof, now smashed on the patio- didn't hear them during the night and I dint think I slept well at all. Some damage to lightweight tiles and also to ridges on local mansard roofs, some lead flashings have lifted but not as much water about as I expected. Some blustery light showers now. Blue sky is nice to see though.
  15. I brief look through the SW thread doesn't make for happy reading Bournemouth, Poole and Ringwood way, lots of trees down and of course the evacuation of the restaurant at Milford Haven. Hope your place has survived OK.
  16. Morning all Hope everyone is OK We have no damage here but that was the worst we have experienced this 'Winter' The slightly dizzy Mrs FD, however, asked earlier if her washing was still on the line. Actually, no, it isn't.
  17. Not in our area, but my parents live up the hill a bit in Dawlish. Read that the temporary protection works to the smashed section of railway line have been breached, houses behind at risk, evacuated
  18. This must be the strongest wind of this winter here. Cannot see any damage yet but am expecting some.
