So with the models looking as they are at the moment, when would we start to see/feel a difference in regards to cooler/colder weather?

It seems as though this cold spell keeps getting pushed further and further back. It was end of December a while ago then it was middle of Jan and now that seems to be getting pushed back again and some are talking about February.
Won't be long and I'll be getting the BBQ out☀️
On on a serious note can someone enlighten me as to what the difference is between the likes of GFS & ECM. Sorry for the stupid question but extreme novice here?

I see there's an interesting spell of snow spreading southwards from the far north tomorrow evening/early Tuesday. What's the general thoughts on this? ...something to keep an eye on?

Warnings are now out well into Monday from the Met O. Fife seems likely to miss the showers if the warnings are accurate.

Amber warning issued from the Met now beginning at 5pm. Hopefully that's when the heavier and more persistent showers will arrive

New York is a prime example of how difficult it is to predict snow and how much of it will fall.
Some places were expecting up to 90cm and new York ended up with only 15cm which many of us Scots could see in the next 24-48 hours.

What's the latest thoughts on how far east these snow showers will get Wed/Thu? ie Fife?

Some on the model thread saying that Fridays event is further south-west on most recent model run. That can't be good news.

Is the front expected to stall or continue north eastwards through central belt and eastern Scotland?

saw the bbc forecast for monday it looked really good.
Hopefully it doesn't change as much as todays snow did.

At this rate I'd say there's quite a good chance of showers making it through the central belt by 10pm. Very promising radar indeed.

I am getting more interested in the main band slowly creeping in from Southern Galloway!
Weather forecast said that would continue up the eastern side of the UK, hopefully reaching us by Monday. I'm referring to the band that will approach the se tomorrow and travel up the eastern side of the UK.

12Z NAE has the furthest progress of tomorrow's front another 15 miles or so further west. Perversely, this is getting better for the east.
Could you explain why the front being 15 miles further west is good for the east? Thanks.

Red alert from MO for parts of Wales. 30cm and blizzards expected. Won't be anything like the odd shower we get up here.

Not a good run from the 18z regarding the eastward progression of Fridays snow. Seems to stall in central areas and move back West. Disappointing.

Seen another picture lurking about showing basically all of Scotland with snow cover by and of Friday. Don't know how realistic it is with sw Scotland getting 27 centimetres according to this chart from meteo group. Eastern areas expected to see 9-10 cm according to this snow depth chart.

MO have released a picture of expected fresh snow cover on Friday but the 2-5cm line doesn't even reach fife and the east, while their warming covers most of Scotland...confusing.
