Id have expected it to be deeper by now than it actualy is. BBC this morning was showing 20-40cm for our area, especialy the hills. Im 250m ASL and its only 3 inches id say.
Its not snowed for much of the day tbh though, but snowing again now.
Im hearing that tonight its going to get its act together a bit and this will be the best time for the snow, is that correct? best yet to come??
-
think the radar is playing tricks lol, shows light snow over sheffield but its still dry as a bone. Windy though!
-
Its on sheffields doorstep now already!
the heavy stuff isnt moving north of Birmingham yet though
-
so were finaly here, its Thursday night and nothing can now go wrong haha
Tomorrow and Saturday look truly epic for March, i never thought id see the amount of snow Sheffield got on 01/12/10 ever again but looking at the latest projections, over 12 inches does seem possible again!
WOW!
Good luck to everyone, i hope we're all snowed in
-
What is it with Steve murr! I liked him but he's just and others neglecting the north and constantly banging on and on about the south and it's southwards dhift! We desperately need the models to pull it north!!
Strange, i think hes great lol, hes just said now that Snake Pass will be 100% his pick of a sweet spot so pretty much all of us in west/south yorkshire look like doing very well Im basicaly on the snake pass haha!
-
36 hours non stop snow falling, some heavy falls at times too .
That would be awesome
-
haha, i saw you post it on the model thread too HC
one thing that surprised me though was that Ian F was talking about snow in scotland, and i thought all the fuss is about 'would the front even get as far as us?'
-
HC - That looks spot on for Sheffield and Leeds in the red zone then
-
At work will peeps let us know whats said on lunchtime weather pls?.Lol im glad the wife dont read this lol.
Great forecast from Paul Hudson just now!
he said timing is uncertain but snow is expected to spread up across Yorkshire through Friday and lasting well into Saturday so we should be seeing some appreciable totals by the time it clears
He showed max temps as only 2C for Fri-Sun so what we get we'll keep
-
Thats a very strong warning isnt it, 10cm+ for a lot of areas and even the blizzard word!
Lets just see what happens, nothing much else we can do
-
HC lets hope it does keep far enough north for us all to get in on the act up here and yes tonights model runs will be crucial for us i think and like you say probably in the morning too.
Incidentaly ive just checked the BBC weather site and its showing an ice day on Sunday, max temp 0c!!! Shourly thats staggering for what would be 24th March!
-
Can we get a direct hit on Friday/Saturday?? Us snow lovers must all now cross our fingers and keep them that way until then haha!
Good thing is its only 48 hours away or so now so youd hope that nothing disastrous can happen now to spoil it!
Am i right in thinking the models are showing it snowing all day friday and even into saturday? Think the GFS 6z has just shown this on model thread anyway. Shourly we'd all get deep snow if that happens!
-
the front seems to be dying already before its even got across, lets hope it peps up again through the night or this will be another non-event
-
radar is looking better now, front is defo getting heavier and pushing west. lets see what we open our curtains to huh
-
great question winter cold, one of the things i hate about the mod thread is the southern bias, specially this week, one minute they whinge and whine about the GFS fetching the 0c isotherm well inland and been too warm for snow down there while the north gets the snow, mushy man and gavin decide its time to split hairs with everyone to provoke reactions....springs comming etc,etc.... which really wound the southerners up.... now tonight there has been a southward correction of cold air... they are diong cartwheels.. and the ecm blew out a beauty tonight this month is looking like one for the record books as thing stand.
one thing i like about the mod thread is us up north dont jump on the mod thread and ramp up or down what the weather is goint to deliver, a good example is northeast of us and scotland they have had some great weahter in term of cold and prccipitation this week , are they boasting or bragging ? NO!
Any way , back to your question... it would take a very brave person to predict this far out how far the front pushes on friday/saturday... its just too early to tell.. im quietly hoping it will plonk itself over our heads then stall, do a huge dump on us whilst winds from the south east howl round our chimneys, then goon the mod thread and stick out a big fat
cheers Bryan
haha yes well its very interesting learning on the model thread but like you say it does seem to be a bit London / South orientated sometimes, pretty much like the news and most things in the country realy lol
like you say, lets hope its Yorkshire's turn to be in the sweet spot, if we are lucky then it could be a nice dumping of snow and with the cold air coming back in after it wont melt either
The way this month is going i wouldnt bet againts a white easter lol, ECM tonight has us still under cold uppers on Good Friday
-
Good luck to everyone tonight, lets hope we get some snow tonight, Paul Hudson seemed confident even lower levels would see some so a few cm hopefully
What do you all think about Friday/Saturday snow chances? model thread talking about southward corrections again, is it likely to miss us?
I guess its another situation of short term paid for long term gain though if it does miss us as the undercut looks to make next week cold aswell
-
well well well, tonights ECM is a nice surprise for us coldies
i thought all was begining to be lost today with the way things were going but did anyone see this run coming?
obviously its only Monday and things could change again a lot before Friday and the interesting part of the week but heres hoping we keep the cold, July and August are for warmth
-
It should reach Sheffield after 6 am if the Met Office projections are to be trusted.
Aaron, thanks very much for that
Quite handy to know as I have family going to be going over the snake pass at about 4am tomorrow morning lol to Manchester airport! I said to them they should be ahead of the worst of it if they are lucky and you have suggested the same
cheers for your reply
-
seroiusly though, am i missing something?
why is the front moving N/NW? forecast is for it to be coming from the NE down across all of Yorkshire. Is the wind going to change overnight?
-
naff all in Sheffield, nothing on radar anywhere near lol, its going the wrong way
-
Sheffield just seems a bit too south west atm
lets hope it comes back down across us tonight, forecast is still for that to happen tonight and tomorrow
-
radar seems to have it moving south to north though?
BBC says it should be moving accross us all from NE to SW overnight? have the eaterly winds not taken hold of it yet?
-
Well remember the streamers in december 2010. This could setup just as bad!
My fingers and toes are crossed haha
PS does anyone know why the BBC weather website tends to overstate temps on the overview? and then when u click into each day its lower? I got a shock just looking at Sheffield and it says 5C next Thursday which is dissapointing when you first see it, but then when u click that day it actualy shows 3C as max which is far more like it hearing the model thread chatter...
-
so tonight we could see some snow and then on Tuesday according to the METO warnings, heres hoping!
Craigers, perhaps thats proper frontal snow on Friday?? Model thread seems to be talking about a lot of snow this week so we could be in prime position in Yorkshire

I was getting that as well earlier, i think what it is is that the wind is so strong its blowing the PPN sideways in the air as its falling so as the 'heavy clouds' are over us its falling next to it or just after its passed. At least thats what I thought of lol, guess it makes some sense of the radar games!
