  1. Yes, good scrape of the car needed this morning - I don't remember any frost like this for all of last winter! Cold feel all day - max at 9.8c today, nearly 12c lower than last Friday, wow!
  2. Lots of cloud, interspersed with sunny spells - feeling warm at 21c, even with the breeze! Bone dry again - ground is rock hard (trying to dig!) Looking interesting for some thundery showers next week and up to 25c - autumn can wait,
  3. Lovely summer's day here - some patchy clouds, but really muggy and warm - 22.5c.
  4. Pouring down here since 9am, but actually not feeling too cool at 17c. Have you seen the clearance over Cornwall? Clear blue skies and sunshine for our Cornish friends and all the tourists for the Bank holiday - Hopefully Somerset may see the sun by about 4pm if we're lucky!
  5. Just driven back from Yeovil about 11/12 miles, sun is out now; About 30 mins ago, the scenes were quite incredible, flooding on many minor roads, thunder/lightning overhead - clearly visible in daylight and you could hear the thunder with the radio on and the heavy rain. The power went out at KFC - ended up with free Meal at the drive-thru, as no tills working!) Amazingly have now had 5 pretty heavy thunderstorms in 2 days. They seem to be generating off the south Dorset coast and heading north into East Somerset & Wilts, although looking clearer now. Happy Days!
  6. We all have our views - I'm not having a go, but the warnings made it very clear that some areas will get hammered (we did in Central/East Somerset)others will get hardly anything....the warnings are issued by the Met Office, who have to balance the probability against the potential impact. If you don't warn/remove one too early that's wrong also!! They can't win whatever they do/don't do..Cheers
  7. nice little cell approaching Portland/South Dorset, plenty of strikes as we speak: http://www.blitzortung.org/Webpages/index.php?lang=en&page_0=12 (sorry can't set the link)
  8. Amazing intense lightning and very loud thunder from 5:10 to 5:40, rain like nothing I've seen apart from the tropics. Cells Seem to be coming off the coast of Dorset in a narrow line, running north towards Yeovil, Somerton, Castle Cary and into east Dorset. What a night though, midnight to 1:00am, then again at 2am and at 5! May need to get some sleep now, although the dog is on our bed (again!)
  9. Watching the radar, the cells are just forming in the channel off the Dorset coast and just heading north! I think there could be some more action, but looking more towards Bournemouth and due north.....
  10. Wow, where did these cells come from? It's been crazy here for about 30 minutes, amazing lightning and thunder that made the house shake. there were times when there were multiple forks going across the clouds, quite incredible - this was interspersed with torrential rain, but it's just faded away in the last few minutes. will post some film hopefully tomorrow, although it never seems as good as the naked eye!
  11. Yes, same here - thunder not so loud, but plenty of forked lightning and only a few spots of rain! Luckily able to watch, using the excuse that it was too hot to sleep anyway - how many other halves put up with summer curtain twitching, as bad as the winter tradition of lamp post watching for snow, LOL
  12. Heavy rain here for about 10 minutes - no lightning or thunder, but lovely earthy smell and amazingly it's still 23c Let's hope for some action, some nice showers coming into Dorset now
  13. Thunder & lightning, torrential rain for about 40 mins around noon - earlier than yesterday, but now grey & dull with steady rain! At least we had some warm sunshine before and after yesterday's storm. Best year for as far as I can remember here in Central/south Somerset for thunder/ lightning. Happy days. Radar looking interesting now east, south devon and towards W somerset
  14. Good thunderstorm here (about the 8th thunderstorm day this year) with really loud thunder & intense lightning, lasted about 45 mins. The shower seemed to develop out of nothing - but just intensified and then rained really hard for about 30 mins. still rumbling around here after a good hour, now heading NE towards Pilton...sorry Glastonbury revellers, get the wellies ready again!! We're in Charlton Adam, 10 miles north East of Yeovil, 3 miles east of Somerton
  15. It was pretty lively here too, probably lasted about an hour, started at about 3:45am, with intense rain and some amazing lightning, very loud thunder - mind you with the dog on the bed(she's not a fan of thunder) my attempts to film things out of the vellum roof window were thwarted by my wife!! Grey and muggy here now - moderate rain, lovely, let's have the sun back please!
  16. Feeling quite humid here at 21.8c, very windy and some great altocumulus castellanus- interesting to see what happens later tonight, combination of radar watching and curtain twitching!!
  17. Just had heavy rain with very wet snow amongst it, just off the A303 at Podimore, temp down to 3.8 from above 7c, could be interesting on any elevation later.
  18. In response to Shaky's question: It's the Met Office's UKV (1.5km) local area high resolution model.
  19. It's been like Armageddon here - thunder, lightning hail ( largest hail stones I've ever seen in the uk, maybe up to 2cm as it stopped)and typically our camera was nowhere to be seen until it stopped! Notable that the temp dropped from around 8 degrees to just over 2c and the hail had some snow/sleet mixed in. I'm a coldie, but this weather is pretty amazing - not good for flood situations, so fingers crossed for anyone in a prone area. Be safe out there
  20. Same here in South Somerset; really quite a thick frost, not had many at all this winter, as you say F1. Temp down to -2.3 and still only -1.9c now. If only we could squeeze 2 or 3 days of useable weather together - feel sorry for so many people flooded again.
  21. Merry Christmas everyone!!!! Nice Frost, so a 'Mullender white Christmas' here in South Somerset!
  22. Winds have really picked up again here in South Somerset - really howling and torrential rain. Just seen that 2 people have died today, so pretty nasty stuff out there - although we are weather fanatics; sobering thought that some families will never forget this event for the wrong reasons.
  23. Sorry to hear about the flooding Wormster - I hope it doesn't b****r your Christmas! Thoughts are with you mate! Absolutely blowing the worst it's been here today in South Somerset, must be gusting near 60mph
