Thanks Steve so this is positive for the West Mids

Still looking marginal on the models for the West Midlands. Although I fancy an upgrade/widening of the snow area tomorrow as the colder air being dragged in floods south....
We can hope :-)

Met office is now showing heavy snow to my area from 15,00hrs Sunday is was showing as rain/sleet 2 hours ago. Wonder what charts they have seen for this
-
What is strange about the warning update is the areas covered on Monday. This would indicate that the low will not slip SE as previously forecast and will instead take a more West to East Trajectory? This also has ramifications on any easterly early in the week etc. Or maybe Im reading too much into it?!
its changed the warnng area but is still forecasting rain/sleet

I'm confused, it doesn't take much. I've just had a look at BBC/met office etc who aren't really showing any snow just sleet for west mids area, yet the charts here from what I gather are showing something may happen. Are they just being cautious? Or are we getting over excited and hoping? Sorry again for the basic question

Not heard much regarding the SSW lately, are the charts beginning to show its effects, or could they still, or did it not have the impact we thought it would. Would be interesting to know your thoughts
-
I've been nosing at the charts and reading posts, just wandered, based on the charts what chance, percentage wise people think there is of having another significant cold/snow period
He that makes sense..long day!
-
That 528 line just IMBY will take that as a start to Feb.
Hi I'm new to this can you explain why that line is significant ...thankyou :-)
-
Hi all, Is there a consensus on here as to which charts and runs are the most reliable. I'm trying to get to grips with them and it would be useful to know what everyone thinks...

Welcome to NW, Dibdabbers...
Please can you pop your location into your profile??
Thankyou and done
A definite forecast can approximately be obtained at 12 hours in cold/blocked synoptics and 144 hours when mild Atlantic bilge kicks in...hope this helps.
Thankyou

Hi, personally I don't tend to rely on anything past 72 hours and even at 72 the models change..... Hard one to call really especially right now with the SSW....
I thought that was about right, the models have been fascination lately as im trying to piece together how they work

I love weather watching (particularly snowy weather) and have been following this forum this winter. I have learnt a lot from everyone even though you can be a bit scary to newcomers. Anyway my question regarding charts is at what timescale can you pin the charts down to a definate forecast and has there been a time when the weather has well and truly defied what the charts have forecast.
Apologies that this is a basic question I very new.
