  1. WOW! What a fracking storm ?

It's been a been a lonnnnnng time since July 2013 but the hills finally got one and yeah it was worth it!

Tried to take photos but failed jumping between windows to my south, west and then north so opted to take video, it was everywhere forking and so bloody good ?

Will post vid and/or stills after uploading IF they are worth it *nods* so gutted to watch on Blitzo that all systems died out as soon as dawn broke but hey maybe and hopefully the sparks will fly over the next few days for us all ?

    Quick question...

Although I have a subscription to the NW radar, I downloaded an Android app called Dark Sky after seeing it mentioned on here somewhere in the last day or two.

After playing with it, seems pretty good and user friendly with a lot of info. That said, anything could impress at first glance with some flashy graphics.

Wondered if anyone else has used it for any length of time and what your opinions are?

As an app, I can't fault it really. Have been using it for approx 15 months and it will send a notification a short while beforehand warning of 5 minutes of Drizzle beginning in the next ten minutes. It does drizzle for 5 mins too :D That hyperlocal warning is extremely handy and all of it's other benefits seem to be pretty spot on too, the wind direction, temperature (including feels like temp) , dewpoints,  humidity, precip % and of course the radar. Very occasionally it has actual weather type a lil off but one click report with actual weather type is all that's needed if you can bothered.

Use it for the free period and have a play about and enjoy it, that's what I did :) Spent the 3 quid afterwards because I didn't want to lose it's use, good luck and have fun!

I wonder if somewhere can get a -20 next week if we get some snow cover. Wouldn’t surprise me to see close to that.

    Temperature  -5.8°C
    Humidity 95%
    Dewpoint -6.5°C
    Wind ENE
    Barometer 1020.6 hPa & Steady

    Monthly Low Temp -6.9°C

    was also the

    Yearly Low Temp

       -6.9°C

That 'Lowest temp' was at the beginning of February and to be honest Easterlies are utter pants here in the Bucks Chilterns for snow so I am taking note of just how COLD we can get :)

Bit more til that is breached and could even be tonight as lowest temps tend to happen just before sunrise, so in that respect I'm looking forward to Low temps and possible Ice days with hopefully blue skies in the mix instead of cruddy grey slate skies!

  5. Had a few sprinkly flurries at about 9pm which showed a tiny covering on car roofs, then at 11.30pm ish radar showed a slightly heavier return and produced a bit more but not much, as can be seen in pics. All looking as if sprinkles may pop up elsewhere now, so hoping others get the joy of a few flakes falling leaving things looking pretty for a few hours  Temp -0.7c /Dewpoint -1.5c

So about an inch and a half (4cms ish) so far which is fantastic after thinking it would just be rain or sleet at best. Really hope that the magic flakes show up for others as the system moves during the day :cold-emoji:

For those on mobiles, I'm in the Chiltern Hills.

Precipitation charts 7 days away! Yeah the graphics are there to view but let's not kid/confuse ourselves that they will even come close to verifying or producing at that range. We struggle to predict 3 days in advance with regard to precipitation. The current corresponding 500 + SLP chart for that timeframe is T186 and shows nothing drastic or significant beyond a cool westerly for the entire UK . Will it intensify as T72 and closer draws near? The NH profile this morning says NOT *shrugs* would love a white something/anything but can't see anything that indicates it this side of 2017 so why post precip charts in FI showing that it may? I'm confused by that.

  8. FID! (Fog In December!) Index ...what does that mean then Lassie :D

It's mighty foggy outside with sun trying to get through and a whopping 3.4c so far with an Easterly breeze flowing. Better than the grey murk of drizzle and 8c of recent days that's for sure :)
