  1. I'm in Bucks, up in the Chiltern Hills.....does anyone know which area to look in the Netweather severe weather warnings? We are not in East Anglia or down in the South area and the Midlands seems a tad far away...seems we are in weather warning limbo !
  2. Wish I could remember the date, probably early nineties but it was so mild in December, I was walking around in a t shirt . Christmas Day kicked off with a huge thunderstorm ...then in January , the wind turned bitter and biting and it snowed and snowed. This was in the Watford area....further up in the Chilterns it lay in deep drifts and blocked roads....
  3. I was thinking something along those lines...those ridiculous headlines, in particular those of the Daily Excess are so highly irresponsible. They must have terrified many old people and those living in remote areas. I know this exaggerated headlines are just attention seeking ploys to sell more of their wretched rags but it does get through to people. For example, I have been worrying that I haven't bought in enough very expensive hay for my mares to last the winter. Instead, it is so mild, they are back out on grass and not costing me a penny.
  4. Being rather ancient, I can remember a couple of very mild Decembers..one where I was able to work with my horses wearing a T shirt and jeans ! These seemed to be a precursor to bitterly cold and snowy January and Februarys ...I am clueless about weather charts etc but it has happened in the past
  5. Thought it was just me thinking people are putting up their Christmas decos very early this year...I wonder if it is a reaction to all these seemingly endless grey , dour days we've had since forever...cheering things up with sparklies and lights... Tempted to do ours early too. I am determined to keep off the model threads this year instead of putting myself through the annual disappointment fest. What with the wretched Daily Fail and Daily Excess forecasting snowmaggedon and the forecasts for my area on Netweather and Met Office showing no precipitation at all.
  6. They shot the wolves dead? Why not tranquilsers ? Wolves are such magnificent creatures...they deserve so much better than the treatment meted out by humans
  7. Had some odd weather in the Chilterns recently...outbreaks of rain when absolutely none showed up in any forecast....Is there such thing as micro-climates? Most vexing for people like me who need to make decisions regarding our animals depending on the weather...and what has happened to the Daily Fail and Daily Excess's Snowmaggedon?
  8. Teaspoon? Luxury.... when we were nippers, all we had was an empty crisp packet some posh kid had thrown away.....ten of us on one crisp packet....
  9. Yep....bring on the polar plunges! As long as I have plenty of ice-free water stored for my horses, I am ready :-D
  10. I see the newspapers have been ramping up dire warnings again...the Daily Excess was predicting heavy snow across the country for November..hmmm And now I have heard the Daily Wail is warning of a December Snowmaggedon.... We shall see
  11. There is an old saying that April is the cruellest month for good reason..I have known many snowy Aprils. Heavy snow that doesn't last more than a few hours usually but I have known lying heavy snow as late as my birthday...on the 25th...
  12. Still no snow here in the Chilterns, we had one light dusting last week and nothing but dry and empty clouds since. Was selfishly hoping for one thick dump of snow this winter/spring. Strange that when rain is forecast we always get it but most snow forecasts are no show, no snow But the wildlife...and my desperate for fresh grass mares need it to warm up asap.....
  13. 95 % risk of snow each time, Captain shortwave..... One day we had a few granules so I guess they weren't wrong then But like today, nothing normally, not even rain
  14. Off topic but not sure where else to post....I have noticed that the Netweather five day local forecasts and the' will it snow ' thingie seem wildly out of synch with reality. It has given 95 % chance of snow for my postcode several times and nothing has fallen... Surely such a high percentage would be right occasionally?
  15. Really missed out big time in the Chilterns...some pathetic showers but no proper snow
  16. Apologies! I was a member for some years in the past s Snowangel....so no newbie excuses! Will do !
  17. I never know where we are on weather maps! I live in the Chilterns that never seems to match up with forecasts for London and the SE. Just cold boring rain here today and all the snow forecasts for the weekend and Monday morning downgraded to rain
