  1. the tees is high but be very careful high force is a dangerous area under such conditions. At work unless i would try get a few pics Mark teesdale co durham
  2. Strong/Gale force E/NE wind very gusty periods of heavy driving rain, truely wild night for the time of year. Looks set for next 36hrs with slow improvement. Mark Teesdale,Co Durham
  3. Warcop Range 2000 hours, average wind speed 43 mph Gale force 8. Mark Teesdale,Co Durham
  4. 10.4C, mod/heavy rain, strong East wind gusty. Saturday should be much drier but expect 50 +mph gusts as wind swings into N/NE. Mark Teesdale,Co Durham
  5. I think its just what your used to. Nice sunny afternoon after shrs earlier, clear skies mean chilly night ahead currently 9.8C, should be a ground frost in the valley bottoms. Low last night 6.8C probably get to 4/5C here tonight well above the valley floor. Mark Teesdale,Co Durham
  6. Meto stats for August are now on the website. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climate/uk/ Mark Teesdale,co Durham
  7. Jumper firmly on 9.6C heavy rain, no heating in house due to on going on going renovations. Mark Teesdale,Co Durham
  8. Definite chill in the air today mod breeze 11.2C. Coolest summer max was 10.8C as Snowyowl has said this could be tested in the next few days. Rain band just arrived wind increasing would imagine temps will fall to single figures. Mark Teesdale,Co Durham
  9. Cloud level 500m, can see brighter skies to East as yesterday wind light at present, 14.8C. Mark Teesdale,Co Durham
  10. Been very dull drizzly here all morning, dry of the moment though, temp 14.6C. Been dull drizzly/light rain from last 3 days. Yesterdays max 15.1C. Mark Teesdale,Co Durham
  11. I agree, a dry spell is needed the ground is so wet. Continuation of this wet weather can only increase the likelihood of flooding in the Autumn. A ince dry spell through September with increasing colder nights would be great. Trees are just starting change probably with low maxs and woeful lack of sunshine. Mark Teesdale,Co Durham
  12. 5C cooler here, max yesterday 14.7C drizzle some mod rain at times in afternoon driven on by strong gusty wind. Dull low cloud drizzle/light rain wind light though this morning. Mark Teesdale,Co Durham
  13. I see P Eden has NE England at 54% of total and that including sunnier Yorkshire. It not just lack sunshine all three summer months have been wet here, I would imagine summer rainfall total will be close to 450mm. Number of raindays has also been a factor big factor. No temps over 20 C this month either and only two in June. Mark Teesdale,Co Durham
  14. Probably more to do with higher humidity and cloud cover than SST's. Mark Teesdale,Co Durham
  15. Link to geology of N Pennines. http://www.northpennines.org.uk/getmedia.cfm?mediaid=868 Last glaciation http://eprints.whiterose.ac.uk/915/1/clarkcd2.pdf A, yes the ice would have followed a pre existing valley. B The highest parts of N Pennines are believed to remained above the ice in last glaciation forcing the ice to flow from Scotland and at times from the Lake District through the Stainmore gap. Local ice is believed to have formed to East of Cross Fell/Upper Tees area and flowed down the Wear and Tees Valleys. C The change in River wears flow is further down stream. From natural England website, Glaciation also altered drainage patterns, by blocking the original route of the river Wear north, causing it to divert eastwards cutting a new channel through the Magnesian Limestone Plateau to flow into the North Sea at Sunderland. The abandoned course of the pre-glacial Wear is now occupied by the diminutive river Team in the Team valley at Gateshead. Mark Teesdale,Co Durham
  16. 7th June min at Benson was all time low for June for that site. 0.0C was also recorded on the 13th. Month overall was above average. http://www.tutiempo.net/clima/Benson/06-2005/36580.htm http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climate/uk/2005/june.html Mark Teesdale,Co durham
  17. http://www.historia-energia.com/ing/conver...mp;idUnidadeB=8 This link converts varies fuels in mw/h. Having a stove with back boiler fitted in the next few weeks so I'am interested in those heatlogs. Have an open fire at present with central heating running off oil. Mark Teesdale,Co Durham
  18. Gas 0.011 MWh/m3 Oil 9.96 MWh/m3 Coal 7.56 MWh/ton Lignite 2.43 MWh/ton Peat (50 per cent dry substance) 2.58 MWh/ton Biofuels (chips, 40 per cent dry substance) 2.33 MWh/ton Mark Teesdale,Co Durham
  19. Shap down -1.8C at 0400, a few places wth an air frost with fairly widespread ground frost in N England. Looks to colder still tonight. Mark Teesdale,Co Durham
  20. Nice to see the shrs got as far west as you. Perhaps some more snow N Pennines later on today. Mark Teesdale,Co Durham
  21. Couple of cm's of unforecast snow here from the odd shrs of the N sea, light powdery in nature surprisingly for so late in the year. Sunny spell mod Easterly breeze. Looks like there has been a good fall of snow for North Midlands/M62 zone. Min -1.4C
  22. Moderate snowfall here. Mark Teesdale,Co Durham
  23. Snow from the feature moving South, covering down to 350/400m. Mark Teesdale,Co Durham
  24. Well the last of Easters snow melted a few days ago, only the odd drift remains at higher levels now. A repeat of Easter would be nice, perhaps not with the very low wind chills. Mark Teesdale,Co Durham
  25. Never quite understood why the more northerly dales of Teesdale,Weardale,Allendale weren't included and just have Dales National Park. Upper Teesdale esp is more special in terms of wildlife than anywhere in the Yorkshire Dales. I find Swaledale and Wensleydale are often very busy during summer months, best dale in Yorkshire is Arkengarthdale, quieter and wilder than those further South. Mark Teesdale,Co Durham
