  1. As rain lashes down, the wind blowing like an Autumn storm and unseasonally cool charts looming, it looks like yet another August will be an Autumn month. The last decently warm August here where temperatures and sunshine were above average was 2003. Before that it was 1999 i think. There has even only been a handful of "average" Augusts since 2000 on the temperature, rainfall and sunshine front. 2005 comes to mind, maybe 2001 or 2002 and 2015. (But in certain parts of the country each of these months were poor in some respect) Obviously i am trying to refer to widespread conditions but still with a bias of my own location - if the weather is great here it is usually a nationwide settled spell. All the Augusts with a n /s split like 2009 count as poor months to me. August more than any month seems guaranteed to be either anonymously wet, cool or dull or ALL 3. It doesn't have to be summer to get a favourable pattern as we have seen long spells of ridiculous sustained warmth in practically every other month in the last 10-15 years. It cant be just coincidence anymore as we would have seen an anomalously warm August pop up like every other month has experienced. In an era of record warmth being broken, there must be something preventing sustained spells of good weather at this time of the year
  2. absolutely sick July here so far about 4c below average last July was appalling this on is just as bad so far....
  3. i know it was being mentioned as a potential indicator for a rapidly deteriorating Summer. What is the current situation with La Nina? May was brilliant, 3/4 of June good here and since then it has been woeful
  4. July is going to be well below average here looking at the forecast temperatures unless there is an extreme heatwave later on in the month 14c 14c 16c so far then 16c / 17c forecast this week. still 3c below average for here.
  5. June 2016 here average Max 19c 70mm rain 170 hrs of sun warm enough, but not a classic
  6. just hit 150 hours of sun for the month here. Its been a very decent month overall despite a disappointing end in store to come. surprised if not amused to see places in southern england on 70 hours of sun. must be your dullest on record?
  7. You really can make a very good summer out of the last few years. May 2016 June 2014 July 2013 August ermm id pick 2012 but 2013 and 2014 were ok September 2014
  8. The last few days were forecast to be poor / mixed actually it has turned out mainly sunny reaching 15c on every day. Pleasant and seasonal is how i would describe it. Indeed it looks as so the next few days will be similar despite the low pressure. Not much rain and some sunny spells mixed in. All in all a very very good month so far
  9. May is proving why it can be the best month of the year in the Lake District. It has rained on 1 day... Today was looking cool and fairly cloudy but is unbroken sunshine and feels warm in the sun, a stunning day as long as you don't look at a thermometer. mean max still 2.5c above average
  10. Tomorrow looks another cracker, then a cool down but still plenty of sunny spells shown over the weekend. I will say that already this is the best May since at least 2010 here as no other May since has had any decent weather at all, except 2012 which was absolutely dire until the heatwave in the last week.
  11. After several warm days and now 2 days of 25c plus another warm day tomorrow, May is significantly above average and will take a lot of cold weather to bring it down to average here This is exactly what is needed for this area after the dire winter - long may it continue
  12. just minima, Jan mean was 5.0c and April was 6.4c (December mean was 8.0c) January was fairly normal maximum temperature wise, but had horrifically mild nights on the whole and very few frosts. Its still ridiculous and typical that after the mildest winter spell possible, the coldest April on record follows. . . . just never ending 7-9c crap whatever time of year
  13. Yep, here anyway - sums up the weather really Coldest April on record and that's despite having a day where it reached 18c. December was considerably warmer all round and January had a higher mean minimum as well as 2 fewer frosts than April.
  14. high pressure westerly winds though thankfully rather than raging strong low pressure westerlies with gales!
  15. spot on its exactly what we need. Any bad weather needs to go south / way north, Cumbria cannot take any more bad weather at all we are barely getting started to repair the damage from winter. I imagine most on here know nothing of the horrific last 3 months Cumbria has endured. I would be very happy for it not to rain again until October. Sunshine or cloud regardless.
  16. March has been, and looks to be fairly settled so far despite a few cold days. Thankfully no strong westerlies or gales anywhere near this month for Cumbria i hope the rest of spring remains settled too!
  17. hmm a new spell of weather same outcome as december - record mild and flooding AGAIN
  18. How about this? Both December 2015 and January 2016 have had higher temperatures than it reached in the whole of May 2015 May 2015 max 14.5c December 2015 max 15.2c January 2016 max 14.7c
  19. reports starting to come in of flooding again here in the Lake District The way this is going it will be an even worse winter than the worst ever winter of 2013/14
  20. diabolical day here only 2 days have been worse this winter - 5th december (desmond) and storm frank
  21. yikes i thought the entire SW coastal strip got buried - Bootle etc did i thought that would be the best scenario for snow for your area
  22. looks like you are the only part not to see lying snow. I presume you got snow in the march 2013 blizzard?
