  1. Today has turned the tide for June. It was bordering on just about OK, but now its heading into poor territory again. very cool day only 12c, about 5 steps backwards to the utter dreadfulness of May These north westerly winds are utterly dire for temperatures. I was in the Yorkshire Dales today, and there was a rasping strong wind, it was freezing!
  2. had a low of 2.8c this morning June mean now 3.1c below average every month has been below average here so far this year - with each month gradually becoming more and more below average as the year has progressed (Apart from April which was only 0.3c below averge)
  3. Highest temperature this year here is 19.6c in April since i started recording (2011) i have always recorded 20c in April or May, so this is the latest year for 20c by quite a while here so far. who else has not recorded 20c yet? and what year was your latest 20c recorded in?
  4. Six days into June and just like May, it is now running at 3c below average here. actually Mean Maximum is 3.8c below average one day where it reached 18c, then back to highs of 11/12/13/14c. horrible strong winds again today - got to be the worst start to June in a long long time
  5. From the 24th April to the 2nd June the weather has been diabolical Haven't exceeded 15c in the entire period average high temperature from 24/4 - 02/06 is 11.8c, a good 3.5c below average - the same length period from 21st March to 23rd April averaged the same max temperature of 11.8c!! ( March and April were both below average anyway) 1st and 2nd June 2015 colder than New Years Day 2015 - probably the worst ever start to June with the winds. It is currently 9c at midday, this was a feature of the very worst parts of summer 2012. It has been so cold in the last 5 weeks that trees that were about to come out then (Oak and Ash), are still pretty bare now, this has made it later than 2013 now for trees to be in full leaf, where in mid April 2013 there were still snow drifts lying around, and the landscape looked like mid winter, whereas mid April 2015 looked rather like it does now. I find this astonishing and really shows just how bad the last 5 weeks have been here.
  6. Just done some local research and this May is on a par with May 1979 around here, 1979 was about 3c below average, rainfall of 200% May 1996 in Cumbria was only cold, not dull or wet with 225 hours of sun at Aspatria (Met Office) and 96% of average rainfall - maximum temps were 2c below average. 2015 is the worst May since 1979 here
  7. Worst May here for a long long time 200% rainfall 50% sunshine 2c below average mean temperature 3c below average mean maximum much worse than May 1996 here
  8. Two days of max temps of 11c have now brought the mean maximum down to 11.9c this is 3.6c below the average for here Rainfall is now 80mm or 130% of the total average Sunshine is on 69 hours, May average is 210 hours here, so only 33% so far
  9. The first 2 weeks of May here have been pretty woeful. Not one day has reached the May average of 15c. Most days have been 11c / 12c, so consistantly 2-3c below average for early May. Now we are heading to the second half of the month, and temperatures for the next week predicted to be 10-11c each day, the month will start running at 4-5c below average for each day. If things don't improve then this May could end up around 3-4c below average here. Rainfall is already at 100% and sunshine levels are running at about 50% of normal. First half of May can sometimes be cool, even last year and 2012 particularly, but this year looks different and it looks like the month could well see out the well below average temperatures. Cant think of many Mays colder than this one so far, what are the real shockers?
  10. low of -6c 17 days of snow lying max depth of 6cm 31 air frosts Mean of 3.8c bog standard average winter for here 5/10
  11. The gap at the top under the roof could potentially be letting radiation in. check to make sure there are no other gaps any rays of sunlight are creeping in. louveres on the inside would also help. what height off the ground is it? in a sheltered location higher up will give a better airflow and i think officially anything from 1.25m to 2m is an acceptable height to measure temperature.
  12. inch of lying snow here had white out blizzard conditions for 15 mins temp dropped to 0.0c
  13. Northern end of Bassenthwaite Lake 150m asl snow flakes have turned smaller now
  14. mega blizzard here with huge snowflakes for the last 30 mins and counting sticking to vertical surfaces and a good cover now 0.3c
  15. Thundersnow, hail and ice pellets here a covering is starting to form from frequent showers!
  16. Northern end of Bassenthwaite Lake Yes i find south lakes does much better from anything coming in from the west / south west, and the north lakes benefits most from anything Northerly through to Easterly.
  17. 3 separate snow showers here today the most prolonged left a good cover on all surfaces that lasted for about 30 mins before the sun melted it feeling very cold -5c wind chill
  18. Shaping up to be another very mild winter here. December was 1c above average and January is already over 2c abover average There is going to have to be a very potent cold spell at the end of the month to even get it down to near average. Mean min for january is 3c above average and with all the wind i cant see any temps near freezing in the next week or so.
