  1. Haha this. My Dad still protests that 12PM is the hottest part of the day because the sun's highest.
  2. It's very clean to me, not oppressive. We are not getting thunderstorms which shows that the air is cleaner. For want of a better word. We haven't got cold air mixing with hot which causes thunderstorms which causes mugginess.
  3. Note I said, cooling i.e if your working indoors. Keeping hydrated when outside. People are making out it's extreme, especially the papers. Fair enough if you find it uncomfortable, do things to minimize it. I just wish people wouldn't wish for it to breakdown and then moan when it does.
  4. A tad ironic with your name being Stormmad. Thunderstroms do nothing but bring humidity and dampness to the air, they do clear the air for the next day but that's hardly required as we have a clean heat anyway. I understand that people have different preferences, believe me I do. Some people don't like extreme heat, but this isn't extreme heat that we are dealing with here. It's above average but hardly stifling. If you were on holiday for a two week period I seriously doubt you would be moaning about the heat, and we've had two weeks. Basically all I can think is that people are moaning because their working in it, which is fair enough, but that's your workplaces fault for not having adequate cooling or yours for not being prepared with liquids. Don't put it down to the heat because it's nothing extreme, just a little more prolonged that usual.
  5. Trust me, I've worked that hard. In temps much hotter than this. I've become very weak on occasion when I haven't got enough fluids, as soon as I drink and eat something I'm fine. I've played football in Singapore in 39-41c heat, now that is tough.
  6. Wouldn't surprise me either. We had a good September last year. Could even go into October and we'll get an Indian Summer. That really is wishful thinking though lol. Just need the jetstream to stay where it's supposed to and continued warm air from the south.
  7. As long as you keep a lot of water to hand it's not bad for you at all, it's only dehydration that will get you. My Father's 52 and does manual work in this weather, he's fine as long as he keeps hydrated. It's not hot enough to cause heat exhaustion providing you keep hydrated.
  8. There's actually a reasonable chance it could last that long, providing we keep high pressure. There's a lot of warm air to the south and the jet stream's in the right place so like you say I think it'll take a lot to shift it all. I don't think we'll see record breaking temps, you can see that by the temps they have in France etc. but this may become a Summer that goes down for being very stable for a long period of time. Fingers crossed hey.
  9. I really don't have a problem with Winter or a cold spring providing we have a nice Summer because it breaks the monotony. However the past seven years we've had awful wet Summers and bad Winters. Not particularly cold ones apart from 2009 but just dismal and dragging. That is the only time I moan about the Winter, if this keeps you won't see me moaning about the Winter because we had a proper Summer. But what sense does it make to moan and moan about the Winters and having crappy Summers and then when we get a good spell people are moaning about that also. It's nit picking and over exaggeration at it's finest. If I do manual work in this weather I'm sure other people can do the same or do desk work without constantly moaning. It's not an dangerous heatwave and it won't most likely carry on into September so why don't people make the most of it. The only people I can understand hating a warm summer is old people and very weak people because it can make them ill. That's understandable, but normal healthy people moaning because we've had two weeks of actual nice Summer weather and acting like we're in the middle of the Sudan and close to a drought is ridiculous.
  10. 28.8c here by the way. Very little cumulus cloud. Very light winds, roughly 5mph.
  11. I really can't understand why, we've had precisely two weeks of nice weather. It's not exactly been the heatwave of 76' has it. That I can understand because it caused water shortages etc and lasted virtually all Summer. People were literally dancing in the rain then because it was all the rain they had had for over a month. This has just been a nice two weeks and I hope it lasts for as long as possible to repay the debt for the dire Summers we've had for the past seven years. Everybody was moaning about them and saying when will Summer come back and now it has people are moaning it's 'too hot' when it's really not. I don't mean to sound disrespectful but if the grounds really scorched in your Garden then just water it, easy. When your working etc. then carry water with you. There's really no reason to moan.
  12. So basically you want it to breakdown, why!!! It's perfectly comfortable, hardly African temps. It's just nice. It's hardly relentless either, some days are cooler than others with differing winds. You'll only be moaning when it's raining all the time. Spells of weather this stable don't come very often so just enjoy it while it lasts. Also weather forecasts that far ahead aren't accurate, past five days they tend to drop the temps a lot due to uncertainty. That happened last week and we still have nice weather. This spell could last well into August for all we know but will almost certainly last into the start of August.
  13. If you're going by the BBC website that is never accurate past four-five days.
  14. Ah OK, suppose there's been no cold air clashing with the warm. I suppose it depends where you are, looking at the forecast for where I am it's virtually wall to wall sun for the next three days. No indication of storms. Been looking at Sunday as it's my birthday and it's supposed to be cloudier and lower temp but hopefully that'll change as four days it's a little too far ahead for high confidence. I know with this spell before they've said it's due to rain in three-four days and then when you check the day before the temps gone up and the supposed rains gone.
  15. One brilliant thing I can say about this spell is that we've had no storms, and not bad humidity. It's a very clean heat. Can anybody on here tell me why we haven't had any storms? Is it due to the high pressure or air direction?
  16. I just don't think it'll quite do it, may be wrong though. The max temp today at Heathrow today is 30 supposedly. I think it'll just crack 31c. Probably won't quiet beat the 31.6c. You're much more experienced with the weather than me though so you could be right. Whatever happens we won't see anywhere close to the 2006 max of 36c during this heatwave.
  17. Yep, I was certain it was. Like I said this July is very similar in terms of stability though which is great. We'll see how it goes next week but I'm pretty confident we won't see 32+.
  18. That's what annoys me about this country, absolutely ridiculous. Only yesterday I was putting fence posts in, doing manual digging and lifting, while it is pretty warm, if you carry enough water it's perfectly workable and pleasant, you just sweat a lot. We're not talking Australian and Arabian temperatures here that can exceed 40c. I barely even consider it a heatwave. I can understand it for old people and the weak because it can make them very ill but for anybody even moderately healthy it shouldn't be of any concern not matter what their doing. Typical British over exaggeration, moan if it's cold and moan if it's 'too hot'.
  19. Umm I'm not so sure. For it to rival that of 2006 we would need to get hot air come up from France and a SW wind to allow the temperature to steadily rise. If you look at the temps for France etc there hovering around 30c so a temp for us above that is off the cards. The temps we're getting now are really only due to our own high pressure and jet stream. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though. I just don't feel it's hot enough to the south for us to get temps much higher than 30c. 2003 was a freak period of hot weather due to a European heatwave and I don't see that happening this year certainly. I defiantly remember 2006 being hotter, I remember my birthday on the last day of term being 32c+ I'm certainly not complaining though, it's pretty warm and most importantly stable. Just don't see it being record breaking or equaling that of 2006 etc for temps.
  20. This July has been extremely similar to that of 2006 in relation to the stability, every day you wake up and it's blue skies. Still don't think it'll beat the July of 2006 with temperatures though, I was at school back then and remember nearly every day being above 30c. We've hit 30c twice so far down here near Cambridge.
