  11. Interesting to see that altnaharra did not have a weather station before 93.I have the feeling during the cold winters of 60s and 80s It would have dipped below -27.2 at some point.
  12. I came across many websites a month ago(couldnt find the links now) where people and the locals have said on many occasions the temperature dropped to -30 C in highlands but Met office Couldnt Record them or they went unnoticed. Its odd 3 of britains coldest temperatures are exact -27.2 C. Also read somewhere that there are spots colder than altnaharra,Braemar,Kinbrace but there are no weather stations over there. Like the locals I believe the coldest temperature might have gone unnoticed or was in a place where there was no weather station. what do you guys think?

  15. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/snow-returns-scotland-forecasters-warn-2265153 "WINTER’S first snow has fallen in Scotland. And forecasters are warning of a nasty cold snap, complete with gales, next week. But there’s no need to batten down the hatches yet, or find the shovel for the drive. So far, it’s only snowed near the summit of Cairn Gorm and any falls in the next few days should only happen above 500 metres. And after the chilly spell, set to last from Sunday to Thursday, we’re being promised fine, settled weather all the way into October. First, the bad news. Met Office forecaster Lindsay Mears said yesterday: “Low pressure from Iceland means cloud, rain and strong winds will move south across all areas from Sunday, with severe gales a risk in the north of the UK. “It will be cool, with chilly nights and further spells of rain in midweek, with wintry showers and snow possible down to 500m in Scotland.†Weather Channel forecaster Leon Brown added: “A cold plunge is expected to sink south, with the first dusting of snow on Scottish mountain tops.†But every cloud has a silver lining. Lindsay went on: “It looks settled later in September, with more settled weather across many parts during the last week or so of the month. “It will also probably be quite settled into October, with temperatures close to or a little above average and feeling pleasant in sunshine.†While most of us are hoping for an Indian summer, bosses at Cairngorm Ski Centre are praying for more of the white stuff. Operations manager Colin Matthew said: “We’ve had heavy, wet snow near the summit. More would be good, and we hope for an early start to the season. The record earliest start is late October. “There’s a lot of excitement after such good skiing last winter. We could be looking at a flurry of season ticket sales.â€

  17. Hello am new to the Forum international Student Currently In Britain. Recently me And my friend(Lives in Wales) started A conversation about Snowy places in Britain.I was of the view that England is more snowy than Wales because Some parts of it are far away from the Sea While Most of Wales is near the Sea. He Countered by saying Snowdonia is the snowiest Place out of the Two,While I thought North-England (Pennines/Lake district) is more snowy.Given that the hottest temperature in Britain was recorded in England but -26 is more colder than Wales all time low of -23.Both Countries Seem to have the same Average Temperatures. We placed A bet And we decided we Would let the Forum Decide . Though we both Agreed That Scotland is more colder than Both England And Wales.I am Visiting the highlands In a Few weeks I would like To know the Contrast between the weather of highlands and England/Wales.
