Wade I get your point for the wider world, but tragic is obviously being used in the context of weather as this is a weather forum. And strictly speaking of weather the perfect one word description of this weather in late April is tragic.

8C and overcast. May as well be December. How has this happened 2 springs in a row. Tragic.

Think this has to go down as perhaps the worst 18 months of weather of all time? No summer, no winter x2, no Spring x2, only good weather I can remember is a week of summer in September.

Funny how northerlies being absolutely torrential showers after winter passes. Streamers pepping up out of nowhere as they move South and collect moisture from that famous sea in the middle of Northern England... If this was 2 months ago we wouldn't see a drop, or flake.

Every single cold spell the last couple of years, the Atlantic has fired up or switched off at the worst possible time. This one if we just had a bit more energy to move it along before it draws southerlies in, it could have been a historic snowfall. Instead we are hoping for a cm or 2 in a 6 hour window.

Have to say I'm loving the current weather, not freezing in my own house and can be outdoors in comfort. My tolerance for cold without snow really is approaching zero recently. -

Yeah and clinically vulnerable start dying at 24C too. The optimal temperature for humans is narrow and very boring, no I don't want 18C all year long. -

So glad I invested zero energy in this "cold" spell, I would be in despair if I did. This one has been especially cruel. Not fooling me though, models -
2023 has been a year of cold spells in winter or hot spells in summer disappearing at 5-7 days out. The models have simply cried wolf too many times. And I notice yet again this morning, after about 3 weeks of tracking this cold spell, that we are still saying how amazing the charts are 300 hours out. I won't believe anything until there is snow on the ground.

Would think many of poor summers had good winters to compensate. There is just no saving grace about this year. One battleground snowfall gone in a day, disgusting Spring and summer, a good couple of weeks in Autumn at least, but other than that forgettable. -

Another cold spell collapsed, very appropriate for 2023. Quite possibly the worst year of weather I've ever experienced. -

Very nice charts this afternoon, wonder when the Iberian high will show up and ruin everything as usual. -

None of this matters as long as Iberian heights always show up at the exact worst possible time every single time. -

Lesson learned, don't trust models with names like BOM. Massively overestimated MJO signal. -

This is good but 2010 was a whole other beast. That PV chunk over Scandi on your charts was actually over the UK in 2010, dropped directly down from the North Pole. It's what allowed a rare westerly lake effect event for Northwest England. Won't be seen again for a very long time imo, but will make do with what the GFS 18z is offering
