An unusual Arctic Warming Event begins over the eastern Arctic, raising temperatures over 20°C above normal! Are we in for an early ice melt season? » Severe Weather Europe
WWW.SEVERE-WEATHER.EU-spread the word- Just a few days after we talked about the Arctic ice extent reaching 10-year highest values, we are witnessing a warming event over the eastern Arctic...
is this really unusual or is it the rather sensationalist twitter page click baiting?- 1

Same here, it was brilliant!
Yes very powerful, I’d say much more than last weeks storm. I found myself wincing as I went past lamp posts hoping they wouldn’t blow over onto the car. Also very intense rain, of which I haven’t seen for quite some time

Was driving as the squall hit York. Very intense and dangerous! Hurricane-esque

Torrential rain in York this morning, a lot of surface flooding on the roads. Eased off now though

My guess tonight, East Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and moving north, after about midnight. Also some storm activity in the NW of England potentially pushing into West Yorkshire
Hopefully York catches one. Been ages since we’ve had a good one!

obviously a very expensive method. But would this be beneficial to those areas where permafrost is in danger of melting and releasing the trapped methane?

The northern alps continue to get battered with snow and are forecast to continue to. Meanwhile my destination in the south west alps haven’t had new snow since the 20th December and haven’t got any in the forecast for at least the next week. Frustrating. Maybe I should have chosen a different destination this year.

What is the long range forecast looking like? I’m worried by the high temperatures forecast in San Sicario where I go during the second week in January. Is there any let up in sight?
Thanks
The mid mountain temperatures of +8 on Wednesday must be a record for this time of year? Even in early April this would be above normal!

Anyone have an early season forecast for the alps? Pondering whether to book an early ski trip, although it’s probably best to wait and see!

Well yet again York seems to be in the gap between the lines of showers to the north and south and has been most of the day. It’s strange that this always seems to happen, but at least the sun/wind will be helping to dry the ground after a very wet couple of weeks
-
Are we expecting these showers to continue overnight? BBC didn’t showed it in the far north only, but with the new graphics you can’t be sure!

Well the forecast doesn't make good reading, with temperatures getting up to +8 in obergurgl on Friday just before our arrival. Hopefully this changes as I imagine it will be a slush-fest, with the freezing level all the way up at 2800m. Always a risk going so late in the season, but I had hoped for better after choosing one of the highest resorts possible.
-
Hello, I have just booked a late season holiday in obergurgl (Austria) going on the 2nd April. Does anyone have an extended forecast. Hopefully the cool air can linger on for a few more weeks to keep the snow in good condition.

I'm in York and keep thinking I'm hearing distant thunder too.Oooooops!! On the way to the Speedway Grand Prix at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, only got as far as Coleshill and have had a Blow-Out on the M6!!
Found a tyre place, now waiting for tyre fitting.. just phoned the Strife back in Leicester and she is saying she can Still here thunder in the distance??? Can't see anything on radar, is the old girl imagining it????

Woken up by approaching storm about 10mins ago and now it seems it's right above. Terential rain and lightning! Don't think I'll be back to sleep for a while!

It truly is an amazing day out. The cable car's (there's two) lift you from the valley (at the end of the valley from Kaprun) up to the glacier. The skiing up there is great fun and even if you don't ski you can take another cable car up to the mountain peak restaurant at 10,500ft and enjoy lunch and spectacular views from the roof-top viewing terrace. If you do go, pick the sunniest day of your stay, as any cloud and you could be immersed in clag! A couple of photos from my last visit:

Absolutely agree! And if your feeling particularly adventurous ski down from the top restaurant, (beneath Blessed Wheather's first picture). Very steep but rewarding!

Thanks for the information guys... I do hope the wintery blast materialises the week before I'm due to arrive! Would set up the week nicely

11C tomorrow in St Anton where I am heading on the 29th is slightly worrying! Obviously at this time of year it's going to be warming up, but any sign of a slight cool down over next week? And with the high pressure near the UK feeding cool easterlies across the Alps for the majority of the week, temperatures won't be silly warm to spoil the pistes
-
Not a great forecast for some areas, possibly looking like a temperature inversion towards the end of the week?

First snow in York for 2 Years ! Wasn’t expecting to see it stick but even near the city centre it’s settled on the roads and cars.
