Keep the faith. You have to reach the bottom before it can turn around. That starts tomorrow.

@carinthian Oh my word! 8c at that altitude, late Jan
I cant wait for my children to be older so that I can make skiing in Europe a more last minute affair, without having to plan and book a trip many months ahead.
I personally prefer the lower villages within the treeline rather than those high exposed areas >2000m but to book snowsure well in advance, that's what it seems you have to do for now.

Evening. Well I am rather gob smacked looking at the 850mb temp chart from ECM at day 10. Just look at those positive values over much of Central and Eastern Europe. Strange to see readings so high under a extended European trough at the end of March . Surely something wrong in this out put ? Donavon's old hit record ," Mellow Yellow " comes to mind. Looks like UK tapping into some Arctic Air mass going by this chart but with snow melt advancing in the Alps ?

Goodness I hope you're wrong about snow melt advancing in the Alps! Looking forward to some Easter skiing!

How are conditions in Austria looking currently? Any expected impacts from the SSW?
-
@carinthian I’m in need of some morale boosting, some moral support, some snowpositiveness!
Due to travel to Obergurgl in April for first ever Easter trip, taking my little princess who loves skiing and the snow.
Tell me conditions are more optimistic than forecasts would suggest?

Seasons have moved from Dec - Feb to Jan - Mar. Soon will move to Feb - Apr.
Due to longer days in Jan than Dec, winter is not as severe as it was when it was Dec -Feb. And Feb - Apr will not be as severe (cold) as Jan-Mar was.
Need to make the adjustment in human expectations, it will continue to move until “winter” is Jun-Aug at which point we will enter the next ice age proper.
it’s like this generation has just crested the hill.

Hope the very recent snowfall has done something to improve the situation although doesn't appear that it was anything significant in most resorts.

Looks like a heap of snow for the Alps to start next week...
Avalanche risk increases then probably!

@carinthian how’s the situation in Austria looking? Scare stories for skiers across the alps at present.

Well 2010 was a once in a lifetime event.
So I guess that means I should stop bothering to hope for a repeat and waste [the rest of] my life elsewhere!

The low is expected to form in the channel this evening - I wouldn't waste your time watching the showers over the west country.
Yep - brass monkeys!

Might possibly be reading the wrong thread then!

Is it possible that the precipitation leaving the continent will intensify over the sea and (IMBY perspective) reach the far south eastern areas of our region?

Can see from the radar that the PPM just isn’t going to hit Kent.
Most of it dumped in the sea already. It’s gonna be wet out there and cold in the morning. -
MO have me at >95% chance of Heavy Snow right now. Not a flake in sight.
It’s pointless even trying to predict weather if after £££££££’s of pounds that’s the best they can manage.

This proves what a hopeless waste of time it is to try and predict the weather.
somewhere might get 1cm out of this but I doubt it will be IMBY now.

Mrs Dave just stuck her snoz out the window and said “it smells like rain, not snow”!

I was thinking the downs in the triangle rather than any of the towns. Ashford will do better than Maidstone I'm confident
I don’t think any of us will complain!
Trashford would never win!

Cant confirm because I'm 30 miles away but it the triangle between Canterbury, Ashford and Dover. That's going to be the sweet spot ( only my opinion though)
If you make it so then I’ll buy you beer!

Well it's not for me to respond, but I'm seeing some worrying signs here.
Originally met had us down for 41 straight hours of light snow, with 6 hours of heavy mixed in, then that improved to 40 hours of snow with 10 hours heavy mixed in. Now sadly we're down to 34 hours of snow with 8 hours heavy.
Basically a write off before it's even begun...
Sarcasm?
