Ecm still keeps the worst of the winds over northern France and the channel. The Bay of Biscay looks like getting the worst of it.....

Not really sure one frame at midnight Thursday showing the 850 hPa  wind speeds tells us the whole story !

I agree mate in terms of warmth....this September has felt more summer than July. Which is weird. And unseasonal (spoken as someone who loves true seasons).

But I've enjoyed the sunshine hours. My personal wish would be autumn with a more frosty element for the mornings but clear sunny days.

I'm in Edinburgh ATM and it does feel more Autumnal. The lighting Is fantastic.

A pleasant day here with long sunny spells, have dodged the showers and it’s currently 24°C with a moderate NW’ly breeze.
Not looking forward to the weekend’s weather in London, looking rather vile.

We do well in the south east generally with a light NW flow it’s felt almost like an old school perfect summers day here in Surrey !

....and how many people will get interviewed because they cancelled a holiday in the UK? Honestly I'm thinking of doing the same with the garbage synoptics being thrown out.

I doubt I'll get interviewed by BBC news though if I cancel.

The thing is it's clear that climate change is responsible and it is a notable heatwave because of its protracted nature....

but the reporting has been awful on it. There was a BBC article that advised about what to do if you wanted to cancel your holiday because its too hot? I mean who cancels a holiday because its too hot! A lot of people like to go away and lap up the warmth at the beach anyway, with an ice cream or a paddle to cool off.

One of the BBC articles gave some advice on what to do in hot weather, it's main point was to 'stay indoors and try not to go outside' 😂

Here are the temperatures across southern Europe at the moment, whilst the heat in southern Italy, Greece and Sardinia is very notable I doubt people will want to cancel a holiday unless there happens to be forest fires next to their hotel. It's as if the media has been told to dramatise a point as much as possible because the weather in the UK is rubbish. It's easy to see why people would get cynical.

Can you just cancel your package holiday / reservations  anyway because it’s too hot without loosing your money / deposit ..? Seems strange !

Well its another stunning summer's morning in London. Not too warm which is great. This has actually been a pretty good summer down here so far when you think about it.

Tend to agree with this it’s not been a washout like 2021 was here …!

That sort of heat is bad for you and can give you skin cancer very quickly if you are not careful or a heat stroke.  Prefer the climate of here and Australia although I've never been to Australia ever in my lifetime.

How can you prefer the climate of somewhere you have never been ? Australia also doesn’t have a single climate there are huge differences across the country which is in many ways a continent !

Today has dare I say it felt quite autumnal in the Lake District, temps hovering between 13 degrees in the blustery showers and just 16 degree max in the drier breaks, largely due to lack of sunshine. Holiday makers who chose this week to stay in the Lake District will be feeling very short changed.

A very uninspiring weekend has passed. We can't afford many more of this as we head into high peak summer. The first 2 weeks or so of the summer about to be cancelled out by a very changeable spell since the 17th June.

Can agree - we drove up from Surrey to visit our old stomping ground of Keswick it’s been really cool today briefly touching 16c most of the day around 13c - but you make the most of it and everywhere seems really busy !

I remember calculating the sunshine percentages for Church Fenton a few years ago and noticed the same thing. May, July, August & September all had around 40/41% of the total possible sunshine, whereas June only had around 38/39%. Even in terms of total sunshine hours, June only gets 6 more hours of sun than August on average despite a big daylight advantage. It’s less sunny than May and July too (May gets 210 hours of sun, June 189, July 205).

    June gloom is real !
