Early days in the cold spell, to be fair. The end of the week may see more interest for London, usually we need a trough/front or be very lucky with a Thames Streamer. Have a feeling my area will see sod all.

agree above , its just when you look at things like the fax chart which was issued last night, you would say that is very snowy chart which should deliver. I guess we need luck and dream synoptics..?

Yes, a case of ‘for the few, not the many’.

Thursday/Friday remains the best bet for the region as a whole.

    -3.3C and clear.

Plenty of twigs on the T+00 fax for 18z this evening

Wind seems to be veering more from NE to ENE upstream over the S North Sea and Holland, so hopefully we may see the snow showers currently affecting coastal E Anglia, Kent and E Sussex perhaps shifting a little more inland toward the W in the night.

that fax chart surely puts many of us back in the game...

Once this sun goes down and the showers start to roll in it'll be fine mate and will settle quick.

why will the sun going down enhance the showers? there are showers around they just don't. seem to have the oomph like they did in 2009. Then the radar was lots of bright yellow with the odd red bit for really heavy convection that is what seems lacking so far.

I'm surprised to have seen anything here today, even though it was very light and certainly didn't settle. None of the charts or forecasts said we'd get anything this far west so I'm optimistic that when the real stuff comes we are in the right setup.

I agree  but my only concern is are we not under the real stuff already -10 or less uppers etc and it doesn't seem to be firing up the really heavy showers and even thunder snow  I thought we might see..?

Stunning morning here looking out directly east towards Brentwood. Still quite pleasant in the sun and actually ok wearing a tee shirt (nothing on bottom half, just a tee shirt, lol).

Looking forward to hopefully a week of fun and games culminating hopefully in a blizzard on Friday. Come on weather gods, make this one to remember - the cold never bothered me anyway.

Identical here in Cobham Surrey - just been out for a run with the dog amazing dry air and clear skies like the High desert in California. Although it’s 2c and a dp if -4.3 would be happier if these started falling soon ....

For sure. The whole country will be under at least a yellow.

I am not too bothered yet by being out the zone. In Cobham / Oxshott in the more opportune places you can actually look down into the Thames estuary and see the Shard / City of London / Canary Wharf skyscrapers- so should the streamer get going we normally get a real dumping we had 11’ here overnight Feb 09.

Are areas in the west of East Anglia, such as Cambridge, likely to be dry in this setup? Certainly, looks that way from the models; we get the least snow in the whole country! Does anybody remember what is was like in Cambridge in past easterly spells like Feb 91?

it was very snowy in Cambridge 91 uni was closed for a day I think it was pipe freezingly cold with lots of halls having no hot water etc ..
