  1. Pretty wild up here now too.some of the outer islands are going to have an exceptional 36 hours.
  2. Ferries to the mainland have now been cancelled from Shetland for tomorrow. Inter-island ferries are disrupted. The airport is facing problems to. Think we have had a 60mph gust here.
  3. I will have a look. The airport runway (sumburgh) goes out to sea, so that might have a webcam.
  4. I will keep you updated. My house faces the Atlantic so there will be some huge waves tomorrow.
  5. It is great if you like stormy weather. Yes, there is an island shutdown tomorrow as the Council is expecting a force 10-11 storm
  6. ECM has temps of around 7C in the south, so I doubt there will be any snow on the south coast. I suspect detail will firm up on the 12Z.
  7. Much milder morning with heavy rain and severe gales. Temperature 4.6C rainfall 3.6mm (so far) wind 68mph gust at 10.40am Expecting winds over 70mph come lunchtime before they ease off.
  8. Temperature has dipped to -1c here with long clear spells and a show of the northern lights
  9. Unfortunately, it does look as if the models are trending to a more westerly flow come the new week. The models show a variation in extremes during this week, but unless you live in western, central, northern Scotland, the far north of northern ireland and the northern Pennines it will probably be a standard wintry affair. The differences in the UKMO still highlights the uncertainty during this week.
  10. Had some snow and hail showers here yesterday which gave a covering in places. A couple of thunderstorms too. Expecting a force 10 come Wednesday.
  11. Dry this am. Further sleet and snow showers overnight with current temps of 0.6C Had some more thundersnow yesterday evening with impressive folk lightning. Winds around 39mph gusting higher.
  12. Heavy snow across northern Shetland this evening. Over 10 cm on hills with drifting.
  13. The models are still indicating that a deep low will hit mid week. This was picked up quite a while ago by the GFS. It looks as if it is tracking slightly further north with the centre running just south of Faroe come Wednesday evening.
  14. The Council here has issued a warning for Wednesday of an island shutdown, so no ferries or planes which is quite common during winter. The local weather office is expecting winds of 80mph +
  15. Cold and frosty overnight with a min of 0 C. Heavy snow showers throughout the day with a few cms, max temperature of 2.1 C Plus there was thundersnow today too.
  16. Although this has been strong storm, the worst of the winds have tended to stay out on the far west coast or on higher ground. Should tend to ease in the next hour from the west. Still no match for some of the storms we get up here in Shetland, we quite often get 100mph winds during winter and can have now power/phones for days. This winter has been quite exceptional up here.
  17. Latest GFS and UKMO brings some very cold air close to me in Shetland
  18. I would agree with the UKMO outlook. It is quite astonishing that I am around 100 miles west of Norway, where it has been freezing with major snowfalls. I would expect some of this cold to filter SW across NE Scotland at times bringing some wintery conditions. Looking pretty stormy on Sunday/monday too for the N and NW.
  19. From the GFS and to an extend the UKMO provides us with cooler temperatures than of late, although the South looks pretty average. In terms of flow, it looks like any influence from the east will be weak and inaffective in bringing colder weather to the UK. The NE looks like there could be some snow, even at lower leves in N Scotland and Shetland.
  20. I believe the current eastward correction of the cold block with continue on the 12z runs, with exception of the GEM, which may just continue its very cold theme. In most cases, getting cold to the UK is difficult, particularly further South. Currently, there is likely to be colder weather to the NE of the UK and slightly cooler weather to the south, but nothing exceptional.
  21. Hopefully Shetland will see some of theose cold uppers next week?
  22. Hopefully the charts will continue with the colder theme. The UKMO tend to forget about us up here in Shetland, we have had a couple of blizzards and storms, but very few warnings or mentions.
  23. It will be mentioned, but probably not until Friday - if the models are still showing a change to colder weather.
  24. The potential colder spell is still low confidence and therefore needs to be treated with caution until further runs confirm a patter change.
