Yes if it tracks further east elevation or not I could end up with less snow by morning than I have now..
Taster for Gloucester by 9pm first looking at radar...
Taster is here, light snow falling now. Thinking here could be in a good spot for tonight

Very frustrating watching the showers dance around the Forest of Dean so far tonight. Temp 1.6 Dew -2.8

I spotted that. OP, Para and Control all showing height rises of sorts pushing towards Greenland with cold coming in from the North. Perhaps a developing signal? See if it is there in the morning! Here's hoping... :/
Also some backing from the GEFS Ensemble members late on, a definite dip away with mean falling towards -5. The ECM ensemble late into FI also shows a trend to colder with a definite cluster below 5c. Trends!I spotted that. I know it's the the very late end of Fl on the gfs tonight but with a nice area of high pressure in the Atlantic heading up in to the Greenland, with the majority of the polor vortex away from Canada maybe more than just a northern toppler.Somthing to get an eye on IF it's still there in the future.

Hmm I am 50 miles north of the m4 200m asl hoping for a covering at least - chances?

Thanks, is that good or bad for cold weather in south?
Good! Falling into line with the UKMO and ECM from today! main models all now suggesting an easterly following the depression around 27th. Great model watching!

For a newbie, what does that mean?
Thanks mate
The breakaway part of the low pressure that UKMO and ECM have modelled is not only evident on the GFS, but breaks away much earlier from the low and dives south!
-
Going forward there looks to be a good chance of Low Pressure going under the High to prevent it form slipping away South East, therefore extending any potential cold spell.
Where's Nick Sussex when you need him to provide a more elegant explanation. :smiliz64:
Ahh yes thanks for that; therefore potentially trapping heights NE of us to allow continued easterly?
Cheers

UKMO ends with a UK high at day 6 giving some hard frosts with cold uppers trapped in its circulation.
Could be good going forward as well.
Roll on the ECM - come on Europe!
What tells you that the UKMO output would be good going forward please? (Learner alert!)
Thanks

Just as we see GFSop and para firming up on the northerly followed by a cold high circa 28/29th the UKMO gives us the potential chance of something more interesting. Eyes going no further than here for now. Exciting stuff!

Wow! What a great present that would be!Would I be right in thinking that this a '3 Wave Pattern'?
Certainly an incredible GEFS ensemble member chart with the Polar Vortex busted.

Northerly winds pulling in behind Sundays low pressure would surely bring hefty wintry showers down across the country by midweek. Finally a decent snap of winter looks odds on IMO. But yes, short term that low is looking worryingly menacing, there have been lots of issues in glos and the rain will certainly not be welcome

I am also a newbie who has been happily reading through these threads and thought I would pluck up the courage to post. Monday seems as though it could deliver some wintry weather to the UK, supported by the GFS, ECM and JMA to an extent. (please don't shoot me down if I am way off the mark!) I enjoy reading through comments and opinions on here and have managed to develop my knowledge significantly! I love the look of those ECM ensembles - lets be optimistic and see what tomorrows models bring

Hmm slightly worried, 205m up here and it is sleet not snow. Really warmed in past half hour. Any chance of it cooling off again??
