  1. I agree Nick. Folks don't understand what happens when you live in the depth of the countryside! If storms are forecast I always keep my devices charged and we have a generator on standby. We had to stay in the car the other day when we went to our land, there were CG strikes coming down all over the place, some way too close for comfort. Lovely to watch from a safe place though. Today looks like it will end with a few rumbles...
  2. Excellent growing weather. We're just getting the garden going again after waiting for any reasonable risk of frost to subside, not wanting to get caught out like last year. Yes, our car was pretty dusty after a few afternoon showers yesterday. Nice and warm today but with quite a strong wind. I notice the t-storms have already started over western Poitou Charente...
  3. Look North forecast just said there is potential for further significant snow tomorrow evening...
  4. Yep! Road outside, which is a bus route, is now covered. Gritters seem to have gone AWOL now most of the schools are closed.
  5. Great - isn't it? Harden Moor beckons this afternoon
  6. Hi all Enjoying this while back in the UK for a few weeks. Some glorious late afternoon snow walks with Mylo. Snowing well here at the moment
  7. Nice to see someone who enjoys weather for what it is, like me. I do like the analyses and looking at models and charts, but the real experience is best. Do come back...
  8. Flying into MAN in a couple of hours. Metar says CBs and snow showers - happy for some good cloud spotting and maybe seeing lying snow from aloft! Not too many bumps though, I'm still recovering from my Noro bout!
  9. Congratulations on the babe, Sausage. I've been off the forum for a while, so let me know all about him or her!
  10. I just want to get back to my boys (Mylo dog and hubby) then it can do what it likes. Having said that, a snow covered landscape from your flight is amazing... Let's hope Transpennine Express is up to the job tomorrow!
  11. Good to see Keighley mentioned! Paul Hudson territory is where I am headed! Bring on the snow when I'm cuddled in by the fire!
  12. Know that only too well, having spent many years around horses (had my own for years). They know when it's getting bad ou there; Stay safe....
  13. I just want to get back to my boys (Mylo dog and hubby) then it can do what it likes. Having said that, a snow covered landscape from your flight is amazing...
  14. Big kids - all of us! Never grow up, that's my motto! I hope you get dumped on (by snow, of course)! Sorry for intruding in your thread, but I couldn't resist...
  15. I hope you stay safe, Fiona, I know what it's like living in a rural area - alone sometimes.
  16. I am confused too! Should we anticipate gales and snow or wall to wall sunshine on what will be a cold day? The MO and BBC don't do themselves any favours...
  17. I too might have an interesting day! Flying into MAN on Saturday aftetrnoon then the wonderful Transpennine Express luxury service to Leeds. "Sufficient onto the day is the evil thereof", though!
  18. Just catching up with all of this. It's bizarre enough having 27c in October (though this has been a pattern over here in France for the last couple of years - we had the same temps in November last year and the year before! We had to put the blinds down in the classroom this afternoon as we were baking) but a "hurricane" is truly amazing. Glad I'm flying back tomorrow and not Monday though - I was originally going to until I realised tomorrow was our wedding anniversary and those two folks going down to Cork need to be careful on the coast. Certainly watching with interest now that I am back on the dreaded island for a little while.
  19. Our little eco-network over here is doing everything it can for Fraxinus (Ash). We've got lots of saplings that are thriving so far and leaving the self-seeded ones to do their own thing for the moment. No evidence of ash die-back (chalara) so far, but it is around.
  20. Wow! Sounds like what we had over here in Limousin last Monday night - some folks here still haven't got their landlines back on...
  21. Some real potential over here in France for this afternoon/evening, as covered by Estofex. As usual we will have to wait and see...
  22. We've got lots of tadpoles in our lake and stream, some legs are already developing. I have a hard job keeping our puppy away as he is fascinated by them and dunks his head in to try and get his own strange version of live caviar!
  23. The weather certainly did break over the Bank Holiday and hasn't really settled down since! It's been nice enough but a cold breeze has been a frequent visitor. Today is lovely with mid 20s, typically I'm stuck at work, but it's downhill again for tomorrow and this next Bank Holiday weekend. Hopefully the warm, settled weather will make a return but I suspect the coming week will be very perturbed. Hopefully some thunderstorm activity will make up for the lack of sunshine. The rain is much needed though and as a gardener I'm not complaining...
