Popped out to the shops just a few minutes ago. As the storm system clears to the north there's quite an impressive and clearly defined cloud structure to it's weeble end.
Is that likely to be all we get for today in London? The Beeb forecast seems to indicate that's the case?
-
Looks like the west side of London will probably get the best of this.
-
The cloud just the the N/NW of me is producing the thunder- just had a huge bang that made me jump! But not seen any lightning yet, and only a light smattering of rain.
Maybe what's following on behind it will produce the real show?
-
Just heard our first rumble of thunder here in East London.
-
Spotted what looked like undulating mammatus cloud towards the West, which is very dark, and the wind is starting to pick up. Wish I'd had a camera on me for the clouds
-
Starting to get some heavy dark clouds again here. Doesn't look like it'll be thundery though.
-
Just heard several rumbles of thunder here in East London. I think I'm gonna get wet going to the bank in a minute!
-
Just starting to rain here, not heavily though.
-
Crikey, that rainfall in the Channel looks intense! Glad I'm not on a ferry- I'd probably be looking at the bottom of a brown paper bag otherwise.
-
Ooh, good luck! The most intense thunderstorm I ever experienced was when I lived in Menden in Germany. We lived on top of a hill so had a perfect vantage point to watch it. The only downside was it fried our TV!
We just hit 30°C! Im close to the LVL 1 area of estofex, tomorrow Mannheim should be right in bullseye!
Marked my location in the last two maps, first map is GFS and the last two WRF

This weather is being a terrible tease! Third day lucky here perhaps? I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.
Tonight though it looks like I'll be listening to my rainstorm on my White Noise app!
-
Wow, that's stunning!
Shelf cloud passed through about 20 minutes ago
-
Spotted two cumulonimbus heading northwards, there's probably more but I can't see them for the tower blocks around here.
-
Will that French storm survive the Channel crossing? If it does that might be our best hope for some thunder today in London I reckon.
It's certainly been very overcast here since I got up.
-
Should be getting a rest from the deep storms for a while. Some time to reflect !!
I just came across this vid. Nicely put together.
Storm Surge - North Devon 2014
That is a fabulously haunting film.

Note the time- that's round about when we had the window squealing gusts.
-
BBC News just reporting that a lady has died in Central London after part of a building hit her.
Edit: Woman dies and man taken to hospital after building falls on car in Holborn, central London, police say

Please stay on topic! ;-)How much longer do we think for these winds? Will they stay at this intensity or have they peaked now?
I reckon they've peaked here. Had some gusts a couple of hours ago that were so fierce the bedroom window started emitting a high pitched squeal!
We're still getting fairly strong winds but nothing like that again.
Must admit, I'm a little disappointed *pouts*
-
Loving this wind, even if our double glazing is creaking a little in the strongest gusts!
Noticed that the severe flood warnings have almost doubled tonight.
-
Well the gusts here are enough to be driving bands of rain and to be loudly roaring through the tree tops. Not the strongest yet that I've seen this winter here ( St Jude was probably the windiest so far) but it's early yet. Last time I looked it's supposed to peak between midnight and 6am here.
-
Wind's picking up here- seems to be on par right now with what we got on Wednesday. It's buggering up the TV reception again- BBC News is more like a slideshow than moving pictures!

Spoke too soon- we're starting to get a breeze here with some light gusts. Cloud cover is moving at quite a brisk pace.
Looks like some intense squall lines developing to the west of us going by the radar? I wonder if they'll make it this far.

Hi everyone!
Been reading the forum for the past few weeks; it's been so much more informative than the media, and I've learnt a few things in the process. Thanks to everyone who takes the time to post all the info on the storms as they develop!
I'm based in Central London, and I have to admit to slightly looking forward to the storm tonight as we don't get much in the way of strong winds here. Currently though there's hardly any wind at all, but we've just had a torrential downpour which lasted for about an hour, then eased off, and has now stopped.
