Showers are actually heading towards Leicester.. beggars belief ! though looking at the intensity I think there is more water in my bedside cup than in those clouds :wallbash: :D

Fortunately I find it legitimately funny these days, I actually have a bit of a chuckle to myself looking at the radar :) I am used to it now. Though I can't be too bitter, we did pretty decent in December, 5 to 10cm twice.

Same with thunderstorms, we either get nowt, and only here and see other people's storms, or we get ommered!!

    Leicester, that is....

This is looking quite a big area of snow, bigger than I expected, I know some of its light but there is some heavy stuff in the too.

We had a blob like that over Leicester for most of the afternoon........ Did it snow all afternoon.............................?

No, it snowed for around 10 mins at 13.30 till 13.40...... Then again at 15.00 for about 5 mins, then again at 16.30 for around another 5 mins, yet nearly the whole time we were under that pink stuff on the snow map... It really hasn't been trustworthy for this event.....

Looks good for leicester there!around 10cms from showers!!gota say though not.much for west mids!!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, and thats a big hmm.. Don't think Leicester will get anything overnight tonight, or tomorrow day, just have this feeling in my bones that our little dip will miss out, maybe a cm or 2 Friday, it's not even that cold.... Hovering around 0c to 1c.......

  4. Leicester has had  a virtually thunderless year (2017) I cannot remember a single storm that was ours (less than 4 miles away) Sure, we had a couple of grazers, storms that slipped by in the distance, but cannot recall any that would have had me outside sitting in the car....

  5. Not all lightning is picked up by the detector network, I have been reliably informed that cloud to cloud, in cloud lightning more often than not is not detected.... However, a thunderclap like you're describing sounds like it should be the result of a positive ground strike.... I suppose it could have been missed by the detector grid...

loooooooooooooonggggg time lurker, first time poster. I love the running commentary on these forums. just been out playing footy with my lad and I can't quite believe how oppressive it is out there. The heat has built so much since 4 pm (in Hinckley) and looking to the skies I think I see the first signs of convection poking through the muck and the white clouds are darkening more every time I look to the skies. I reckon 8 pm onwards will be kick off time if it's going to happen at all.

love this place by the way! hope to become a regular (treat me gently though as I am no expert) ....yet!

Welcome fellow Leicestershirearian.. on a knife edge with regards yes/no (Thunderstorms) very, very humid, still, stagnant air, need a storm to bring the "PETRICORE" [Apologies if I have misspelled it]
