Best advice I would say is radar watch, you just cannot tell with this sort of weather set-up..

What an incredible early hours that was in east kent, some of the most vivid lightning I've seen for some time and completely unforcasted by the met to that extent as well!
Does anyone have the radar grabs between 2-3am? and 4-5.30am
Here's a couple or 3 for you.... The bottom one was 01:45, the others between 02:00 and 03:00 hours

Storms moving out of Spain as well, from around a well known bank!
And the channel islands spawning now..

That's quite a compact, narrow storm, putting out quite a lot of strikes per hour.. Meanwhile, the main swathe of rain has nearly cleared the Midlands, we've barely had any rain in central Leicester...
Wonder if that lot moving up further west peps up in the latter of the night hours as it reaches the Midlands (3am - 5am) times??

Is it possible if the main rain band was to drop 100 mile south, it would engage the warmer air and spark-up??
Just a thought ........

BBC weather just shown thunderstorms in a line from Southampton to the wash by 23.00 tonight !!
I must be living in a parallel universe ?!
So we've got half hour before hell is unleashed on the Midlands!!
Time to nip to the local offie and get some bottled water and plain crisps to keep us going for a day or three!!!

You're still in the warning zone for tonight/tomorrow. It may have been a notification due to them changing the warning zone, adding in more parts of the southwest.
No, this is a fresh message, had that one earlier this evening!!

Just a fleeting observation purely based on the little red area on Mapantz grid above. Nothing sinister to it.

We've got low, grey, dank, sky above Leicester at the moment, must be a fair bit of moisture in the air as all the rain that fell between 03:00 and 07:00 has evaporated......
No wind/breeze whatsoever, it feels like just one of those days after a night of big thunderstorms, but we didn't cop one.
It just has that "feel",if you know what I mean?

In the absence of any other forecasts for the UK yesterday, and with estofex giving a no risk area, you played that very well, a superb forecast on a day with just about as much uncertainty as you can find.
Yea, great effort, i'd take that accuracy any day of the week, well done!!

Im to the west of you but all i had was heavy rain no storms as such.
Thought it was a dream!!! But boy did it rain!!

We're there any lightning strikes over west/east midlands, east anglia from that large mass of heavy rain that moved north east over the country overnight?
Not inc the storm that's exited the east coast over the last half hour or so...?
Not sure if I dreamt this storm, or it was real!!! (Leicester) between 03:30 and 08:00 this morning!

So, this rain band thats rattled up and through the Midlands (see screenshot) That isn't supposed to be the thundery stuff for us Midlanders, is it?
The electric stuff is now starting to form behind it, and in the channel, and then starting to fire up?
So, I reckon these t/storms will arrive around Leicester around 14:30 Does that sound about the right sort of ball park? Or am I in the ball pit!!
