Well our area needs at least 10 consecutive warnings to see even a glimmer of lightning (and we’ve only had about 2 so far this year) - but I hold out hope for later on today. Chance of some messy convective imported stuff later in the evening too - but I reckon the best shot I’ve got is seeing some distant flashes from the hill in Gford as it gets dark...
We were pegging hopes on some surface-based convection developing over Kent from sea breeze convergence and diurnal heating.
Murk offa the North Sea hasn’t helped our cause but there’s still hope for some sporadic strikes embedded in the rainband.
Gotta get what we can on this island
To my non-professional eye it appear there’s been a lot of clear sky over this area since 10am - so I’m wondering if we might see the front pep up over the next hour or two around west Brighton / Portsmouth area
With clear skies and potentially quite high cloud tops I think it might be good for a few distant flashes from up on the hills. Could be wrong but would be a great start to 2019 storm season if it does
Sky News don’t seem to have got the right memo this weekend

Yeah it never got particularly heavy for us. Nothing of any note - just a basic dusting really.
Couldnt seem to get far enough away from the dry, clear slot. Imagine if that meso low was just 15 miles further east... we’d have been pummelled!
We do! But it’s still awkwardly light stuff and would really hope it can pep up even for a half hour or so. Settling though
How’s your neck of the woods getting on? Would expect you to have quite a bit of a covering by now
It’s like we are right on the borderline . Pulsing between freezing rain, swizzle and light to moderate snow.
ive been using the charterhouse spires as a gauge can’t see them now
Looks like BBC playing catch-up. Do they do their warnings based on looking out of various windows?
Would hate to be on the west stretch of the M25 right now
