  1. Despite attempts earlier to get a good pic from a very special vantage point in the centre of London - I only managed this The rain was quite something
  2. “The tornado-like cloud” Arrrrarrg! just say ‘funnel cloud’ you gits
  3. Just going through photos from Essex the other week and something struck me - it’ll be a while before we get scenes like this again - the yellow grass against the deep dark grey/blue skies - amazing to see: Edit: ok it might have been wheat here - but in other pics it was defo yellow grass
  4. It’s great - it’s like Mother Nature is very successfully distracting us from the fact there have been no thunderstorms here all summer with a cheap parlour trick... don’t fall for it - it’s all smoke and mirrors!!!
  5. No thunder but some good heavy rain just now also saw this as I left weatherspoons: hic
  6. And another bonus is that you’re not under the Dorset/Devon/Wiltshire/Hampshire/Surrey storm shield
  7. This is an interesting read (the bits I could properly grasp) explaining the situation yesterday, how the forecast modelling picked up signals that there was a chance for deep convection and why in reality it wasn’t what we were expecting: http://www.ukweatherworld.co.uk/forum/index.php?/topic/119695-synoptic-mesoscale-complexities-of-elevated-deep-convection-7-august-2018/page__pid__1057881#entry1057881
  8. Cool thanks, i’ll try and remember to rant in there Might not see me in here for a while...
  9. I read at Metcheck about *some* potential tomo - but with no ppm / risk map or further detail to clarify at this stage. CW usually deliver something by early evening tho so not long to wait to find out... Definately don’t hold out much hope for anything, but I am thinking the next 2 to 3 months hold a lot more promise than June July and August did - which seems counterintuitive considering the extreme temps we’ve seen. Watch this space - there’s a good deal of weather still to go before we put up the Christmas tree...
  10. I thought the ‘no storms club’ was a thread for observations from anyone who hasn’t had a storm yet... Surely convective moans should go in a ‘thunderstorm moans’ thread instead? in fact - wasn’t there one of these some time ago? Does it even still exist? I apologise for my part in general convective moaning - i’m Trying desperately to stay positive - but events like yesterday are so common for our area at the moment. In fact I would make a guess that only 1 in every 8 storm forecasts for our area ends in some kind of reasonable result. ...whinge over! Mods please move it if u like
  11. Lol good luck hunting... I would recommend start with plane tickets and learning to speak Italian
  12. Waste of time even writing this, but what a s**t place to live for thunderstorms
  13. It’s veering quite east now. The western extent is dying off electrically. Looks like a clipper to me
  14. If I was a fan of being under risk area edging lines this would be a bumper year of fun for me
  15. I was wondering if Sevenoaks or Box Hill Dorking would be a good place to head. Planned to have dinner at my dad’s place tonight so some timing predictions would defo help this time, but it looks like there’s a little uncertainty on that. Reckon i’ll Hang out there til about 8ish and then head round the M25 as it starts to gets dark and see what happens. would be lovely for storms to come to us for a change though
  16. Really don’t hold out much hope for tomo going by the more trustworthy forecasts which put everything over the continent and a marginal clipper at best. Yes I could be proved wrong, but I doubt it. An awful waste of some really good heat right there.
  17. But you have to acknowledge that this has been a year of unusual weather and synoptic anomalies thus far. Using historical data to work out the near-term weather in 2018 is probably about as good as asking a passing bumblebee what he/she thinks will happen in two week’s time. I look forward to the late summer as higher sea temps mean a better chance of imports from the continent, and it’s coming up to the end of the mad school holidays - which means cheaper trips abroad for us
  18. Although I can’t help but read south/southeast in the forecast to actually mean ‘midlands’? sorry, force of habit good luck lincs
  19. Gone overcast here in surrey. Wow so hot too. Great news for our local festival tomo and on sunday - providing the weekend stays nice and dry And then my eye is drawn to Tuesday - where a plume of tropical air from Africa could provide us with some decent fireworks. Watch this space!
  20. I’m not sure how the hi-vis helps, really. From a photography point of view wouldn’t it turn you into a massive flash bulb at the very moment you wouldn’t want a massive flash bulb to go off? other than that good on her though I don’t know where she goes to find these storms they keep mentioning
  21. I liked the rain early this morning on the way through Sussex, haven’t seen leaden skies like that since April I think - really good news for the countryside before the heat comes back with a vengeance
