  1. Hehe I said the B word yesterday I think... if I didn’t... ... BUST!!
  2. Lol - yes somewhat condescending i understand Synoptics having been interested in storms for years, but there’s something about our area that seems to inhibit deep convection - save for about 1 event a year. i’m having A moan of course. Last night great opportunity for great storms once again wasted. I’m going to stick to the pretty colours of Convective Weather, Tony Gilbert and Estofex solely from now on - and even then ignore slight zones completely for our neck of the woods. UKWW in particular have a handle on the seemingly thousands of variables which make or break Surrey storms - so I might even just stick with them. Just watched BBC forecast and - despite using a somewhat muted palette on their chart - they seem to be suggesting storms toward the west later today, but I still don’t buy it.
  3. I’m just counting down to 10am tomo when the news will be full of photos and talk of the dramatic rain and thunderstorms which our area simply won’t see. It happens time and time again. Maybe you should move to Lincs (and change your name?)
  4. Yep - I think you are spot on. Then about 2 weeks until the next potential which again will be north and east or far far west. Problem I think is that the slight area is so wide ppl read into it that there will be action near them - but I think the forecasters are covering the chance of a couple of rogue cells popping up - so unless you’re in the warning box (or planning to head that way) it’s not worth expecting anything at all - in my opinion. Last night it just didn’t feel thundery enough for widespread storms in our area. iOW did ok but that didn’t last too long. Early evening I really thought we were onto something, everything was on our side, then the skies cleared and the temperature ‘fell’ to 18/20° and the elevated cloud just wasn’t there anymore. Wish I know what was draining the power from the atmosphere round here, this heat is getting ridiculous. Anywhere else and it would go bang!
  5. That’s the thing - hope all you want, this summer is just one convective disappointment after another for the CS which is badly in need of some rain now. Don't rate the chances for anywhere south or west of London - but then I could be wrong. Just tired of the wait now.
  6. I don’t understand these storms at all now. Think I’ve lost the will to be a U.K. storm chaser any more. If it can be this hot and humid and storms just refuse to happen over us then i’m at a complete loss understanding what conditions i’m supposed to be looking out for.
  7. This is the best alternative I can find at the mo: https://www.weatheronline.co.uk/weather/satellite/UK.htm ... just press ‘loop’
  8. I’m in the spare room - window open and west-facing. Can hear a pin drop outside (must be the pinmen )
  9. That cell going a bit nuts already Moments away from it sparking up methinks...
  10. Bugger me just realised where I am... thought I was near Farnham and i’m actually in Liss
  11. Lol - do I drive to Banbury for 4am on a chance this might come off? Might just go home and sit in bed watching the radar...
  12. It’s not like they put us under a moderate anyway. Really wouldn’t bank on July 2015 at any rate. Shame though - would have been nice
  13. Think that Woking cell is dissipating. Moving too quick even if it does fire up anyway, we need something in the channel - or at least along the coast - to get going
  14. I’m seeing small (read: tiny) clouds which quickly disappear. It’s not even hazy anymore Practically clear skies near Farnham
  15. Found this: https://www.weatheronline.co.uk/weather/satellite/UK/UnitedKingdom/Infraredcolor/premium.htm w00t!
  16. Looking at rain radar for the last hour appears to be a band of rain weakened to nothing over the channel which appears to stretch up towards oxford area. Its gone now - but looks suspiciously like what one of the models was picking up earlier on (AROME I think). Wonder if that was supposed to be our opportunity
  17. At the risk of being criticised for saying this... it doesn’t feel like a big storm kind of a night anymore really. a) lack of any decent areas of elevated cloud b) humid and still warm but nothing out the ordinary where I am c) no real areas of rain (yet) I’m thinking it could be hours yet if anything does kick off
  18. Not having access to satellite for cloud cover is a bit of a bum cake
  19. I’m actually only annoyed because I spooked some deer just now and *thought* I’d taken an amazing video of one gambolling through a wheat field - then I realised it hadn’t registered me hit the ‘record’ button... Storms: you have another chance - but don’t let me down this time yeah?
  20. Is there another cloud radar somewhere? Sat24 is doing my head in! is there a Sat23?
