  1. I think some sporadic convective showers and thunderstorms is a reasonable possibility for the Greater London area, at least until about 3/4pm
  2. “Clear window of cloud” doesn’t make sense sorry I mean clear window of SKY Lol
  3. Clear window of cloud materialising in a band from Folkestone up toward Hereford. On satellite wondering if this looks like a CZ developing? I’m no expert so forgive my novice observations. Think some solar heating could make things ripe in an hour or two?
  4. To add to this debate about amber warnings, I’ve seen days in the past when we’ve had a deluge that leaves standing water for several hours afterwards and at the time there was no warning issued at all. My memory is sketchy and I can’t support with evidence, but as far as I remember nobody was injured or died because of it. Maybe the odd home was flooded I don’t know - but it was just what happened when you got a lot of rain. Go figure. So either we are getting more nanny state about the weather, or there really is a corncerningly larger number of flood events (presumably related in part to global warming?)
  5. After today the next storm chance for London is apparently on Sunday 24th June
  6. I know it’s IMBY but this sort of thing is just annoying me now: “On both days there's the chance of an isolated shower here or there, but not on the scale that we've seen this week” Not as much severe dullness and grey cloud muck? Ok good
  7. Looking forward to today’s potential. Why, you may ask? Well because this week the areas on the edges of risk zones seem to be fairing well (don’t ask me why - just an observation). Today the risk zone is large - mathematically this makes the circumference of that area particularly big, so a good chance for a fair few places (if you agree with my strange logic, that is ). Also because, why not - we could have a red severe warning this week and it would likely bring us nothing but stratus cloud so today it seems more reasonable to expect something. fingers crossed

  9. Was there a lot of IC? I figured there would be a lot of mid-level cloud about too - and the rain was a real pain on Saturday night although I do like driving in heavy downpours (and stopping usually when it gets too much!)
  10. Not storms though. And even if they forecast storms I doubt I would believe it
  11. Me either - and IC lightning really doesn’t float my boat unless the cloud structure is visible otherwise you may as well just stare into a flashing bike light. There are a number of four-letter words that would accurately describe the period of convective weather we’ve had in this last week. Thank goodness it’s only the start of summer - please please please can we have a proper thunderstorm soon ?
  12. Can we all just agree that they should have made the amber warning area 1 mile smaller then everyone will be happy and we can all get along happily like teletubbies
  13. Warminister had a massive downpour earlier did it not? The warning wasn’t for dangerous levels of excitement - it was for severe weather, which I begrudgingly accept was probably warranted for some places
  14. I’m not counting on it. i think that’s it (for our area at least) from this ‘thundery spell’. Lasted over a week, had about 8 opportunities and got naff all. I did quite a bit of chasing but still haven’t seen anything of any real significance from it. Waste of time and energy for me, really. Hope others have fared better Edit: that Sunday backbuilder was amazing though - until it literally stopped dead in its tracks. That was just weird and annoying
  15. This is a cell near Tring about an hour ago before I ate a pie: Hard to think nothing really came of it
  16. Need to remember folk that an individual strike registering on the radar could be a part of a larger lightning path, sometimes 4 and even 5 registered sferics can belong to the same bolt if it’s big enough * I know this because I’ve seen it happen
