  1. More strikes than the other night when a load of you stayed up to watch that band of rain
  2. Zoom out on the radar and it’s like ‘whoa thunderstorms!’ Then zoom in on a particular cell and there’s about 10-20 strikes max
  3. I think we will see an improvement in the intensity of these storm cells - but remember the lifecycle of each cel will be relatively short, so let’s hope for some backbuilding to reinvigorate them. Hopefully some cooling of the tops will help intensify them further before the evening is through Overnight we can possibly rely on some elevated convection continuing but this won’t or particularly organised or prolific. Generally i’d Say today was well over-cooked looking at the forecasts but they are just doing their job
  4. It just feels like it’s holding back. Just been through heavy shower near Chorleywood. Looked promising for something more but it’s just not moving up that extra step
  5. How many more weeks will ppl say this sort of stuff and nothing of any interest materialises? Being serious, it’s relentless - at some point we need to actually see something... surely? Anyway it’s far from a bust today but even if it doesn’t happen i’m used to the disappointment now so it doesn’t really bother me anymore
  6. The words “late afternoon / early evening” are important ones to remember
  7. He’s probably referring to my comments yesterday suggesting it could have been as early as 6 -7 am - but that was for the elevated stuff from France which sadly didn’t materialise
  8. Lol I like this idea a lot - like when you shine a remote control into your phone camera and you can see it there, but not with the naked eye If this is true maybe there’s a tiny severe supercell happening right now right next to us and we don’t even know it
  9. [Stepping carefully over the eggshells] Do you think we will have storms inland today? Say - around the M4 areas? I am genuinely interested on your thoughts, just would like a few specifics.
  10. Here’s a prediction: Naff all will happen until 2:30 when it will start to kick off and cells will grow very rapidly
  11. I’m happy for it all to wait til 4 - should be free to head east towards Reading / Windsor by then... maybe even Richmond Hill looking like a good spot?
  12. Fair enough. Hope you see something - what’s your view like from your desk? i got stuck in a basement for 1/2 Tuesday - was getting really agitated, no view and no signal knowing there’s storms about - it’s horrible
  13. Think you’re being a little pessimistic so early on in the day - just take it easy see what happens. Better still (and if you have the time and resources to do it) head inland a little and wait there. Storms do what storms do
  14. I think Convective Weather has it roughly nailed. No point making any other guesses it’s gonna be one of those strange days where it does what it wants - esp considering the mix of forcings we’re dealing with. Elevated convection mixed up with surface - interesting combo - just add Sun!
  15. Thunderfog is the worst thing I can think of... Apart from not having thunder at all
  16. That what I read - think it was accuweather so it may as well have been tea leaves, but I guess it’s still vaguely possible
  17. I’m pretty sure 12pm is midday. But - to clarify - I meant midnight
  18. That’s kind of the 1,000,000,000 dollar question... The CW forecast Matt posted is clear that uncertainty remains on exactly where the storms will be and where they will be most intense. You’re dancing near the edge of a ‘slight’ zone, so chances are fairly good you’ll get some sort of a storm fix in the afternoon. Check the forecast maps - they make it fairly clear what they think (but remember it’s just a guide!) Edit: sorry I didn’t mean to be his spokesperson oops
