  1. Feeling a little cooler now. I hasten to say the really hot stuff has been wasted as usual. Why does our weather have to act so ****ing slowly all the time Also it’s the lack of signals that anything is happening which is peeing me off
  2. Sat24 isn’t much use as it switches to infrared, and the rain radar just shows weakening showers. Skies aren’t looking particularly good either here near Alton. I do hope things start to look up soon - got work tomo...
  3. Have a video of it as it went up over Essex. I am certain at that point it was a supercell - best night time storm I’ve seen from a distance. Totally... amazing video isn’t great - shouldn’t have added the music - but you get the idea. Went on for hours
  4. Tends to loiter near Greggs until about 5pm, then usually found on that small weird table near the toilets in the local Weatherspoons, going on and on about ‘the good old days back in Kansas’ Edit: later on heads home and kicks over some wheelie bins on the way
  5. Tonight is elevated potential, so I don’t think they will behave in quite the same way. Chances are it'll probably be a quite sudden destabilisation of the airmass over quite a wide area of the central south and then this moving quite slowly but steadily NEwards towards the Wash. Can’t discount Hants, the Sussex sisters and Kent seeing a bit of the action, too...
  6. What the chances that Estofex will give the U.K. a level 1 somewhere for tomo? Looking at what Tony is suggesting over on UKWW tomorrow has even better parameters in place for eastern England and suggests ‘low-end supercells’ could be a result Obvs its dependant on factors still in play but his forecasts are regularly pretty spot-on
  7. ? . . . . . . . . . - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - | Edit: I read they’ve already put it out
  8. Goes to show the radar definately doesn’t show all the strikes ... unless it was the pilot throwing his cigarette out of the window?
  9. Was nearly sent to Madrid this week - would have been returning to Gatwick at about 11pm tonight - i’m glad they cancelled it or I would have probably ended up stuck in Spain or redirected to Birmingham or somewhere
  10. The strike rate on that cell leaving France is steadily increasing: Was 400 about 30mins ago We might well be in for a very good night... [Putting on my thunder trousers...]
  11. Damn I ordered the ‘seriously blonde’ beer and then I saw they had a Vienna lager ?
  12. Patience my dear Tom, patience Keep an eye on that stuff in the channel. Even if you’re too far west you might be in a nice position to see some anvil crawlers on the horizon - just possibly
  13. False start over the midlands but things really beginning to crackle towards the English Channel. Was thinking of heading out towards Chorleywood on way out of town, perhaps ending up back towards Richmond Hill to see storms pass up and over - then hopefully a chance to see them drift northeastwards towards the North Sea just a short distance away near Kew Gardens. Reminds me a little of the storms back in 2015 (I think) - when Poole got that monster cell which moved up over central areas towards the wash. That was an AMAZING storm. Could be a long night though Radar watching is the way to go now... Good luck everyone!
  14. More detail here: https://www.metcheck.com/SEASONAL/weekly_storm_discussion.asp
  15. I’m sorry but these forecasts seem to be entirely ignoring the likelihood of some thunderstorms over areas further south. I might be wrong but it seems strange everyone is going for everything happening up north... Edit: okay so CW upgraded us to a slight, I’ll give them some kudos for that
  16. Google Weather (please don’t laugh) has had us down for thundery showers Thursday late and these turning into full-fledged storms through the early morning on Friday. Its been on there for a while, too. So why is nobody mentioning the risk of potential storms on Thursday in central southern areas? Or is it okay if we all get washed away in the floods...
  17. Is this another case of a whole load of nothing for the central south, which has not had any meaningful rain for what seems like 3 months?
  18. Overnight elevated storms when I’m free to chase suits me better than taking a chance on SB stuff overcoming a very probable cap while I’m stuck at work in sweltering conditions the next day
  19. We have a lightwell behind out flat (don’t have a garden unfortunately) but managed to get some top quality fake grass once from work which we’ve laid out over the decking, and we’ve strung up some lights around the wall. Also fitted a fake picket fence, and I’m getting a couple of Philips hue bulbs at the weekend so we can have dimmable wall lights controlled from the iphone. Usually it’s not the best place to sit on a bright sunny day, as it’s only a small area and it’s in the shade from 12pm onwards. It also gets quite dingy - even on a very bright and clear day - but in this current heatwave it’s become something of a haven. We can open both the patio doors and it extends our lounge outside and cools the house really well. At night it’s lovely with the lights on - sat out last night doing some work on the laptop listening to the foxes and various nocturnal animals shuffling about in the woods next to us. It felt like being indoors it was so warm. Absolutely love it! (Also the grass is still a rich green colour)
  20. I find that my spuds practically disappear - but that’s normally when it gets very cold. In this heat and humidity I’ll admit I’m having to give them a good old wash every couple of hours. Phew! I’m finding my aubergine does very well on a warm day. I keep taking it out to show ppl. Don't like to let it get too near ppls dogs though. Ouch.
