  1. Posted this once before very early this morning but it gives a pretty good idea of the storm at its peak FullSizeRender.MOV
  2. This is a spot-on account. For me - I decided to head 20-odd miles down towards the coast, to see the show as it came ashore, but the lightning was already starting all around as I got there. Then the radar showed that storms were breaking out back up towards petersfield! So had I stayed more local I would have been treated anyway… but it was great seeing the constant strobing all around, although no actual lightning bolts were visible until I decided to chase it all back up the A3 Sadly it then very quickly lost intensity, with more storms breaking out much further north, where I couldn’t see them. Usually the back end is the best bit. But with that lost it did feel a little like a let-down. I always love standing out in a storm though, and was lucky to be in an area that received no full-on downpours or hail. Have a lot of footage but it’s mostly just a black screen - hardly any lightning registered on the camera as it was so elevated
  3. Elevated lightning towards Midhurst from Waterlooville earlier this evening FullSizeRender.MOV
  4. I dunno about tonight… SO MUCH LIGHTNING! But so elevated that after a while it felt a bit pointless - couldn’t really film it, got a few photos, heard some big rumbles, but was in a spot between two cells so I never got the full brunt. Gotta say though - at one point it was just strobe. Standing out in it was ace. Rain a little annoying and mist kept creeping in but not a bad storm at all. Shame it’s all ded now - was hoping to catch the tail end over London. I’ll try and make a chase vid, but not sure how exciting it will be - lol
  5. It’s a mad storm. If it roots to the surface you’ll know about it
  6. A ridiculous amount of feint elevated lightning here at Butser hill
  7. Friends Clump is also an awesome spot - would be perfect this evening I reckon. So dark - but quite a few cars usually turn up so that can be a little bit irritating
  8. I was thinking Epsom downs (where the racecourse is) could be a good spot … but light pollution might be an issue. fantastic views north over London city from there
  9. It’s simple… Google weather it, then shout ‘bust!’ 10 hours before you even see a cloud voila: you’re Michael Fish
  10. I dunno, there is a lot of frontal activity going on and with elevated setups things are less clear. Another thing is that I’ve lost count of how many times the skies have looked classically ‘primed’ - but sweet fizzy alligator has actually happened. This morning looked fairly good, there was a chance forcings would have given us a decent squall, but in the end it was only rain. However, it was utterly torrential
  11. The tree is a good sign - it will provide you with oxygen. The sky is blue, which is the right colour (if it was purple I would suggest you might have taken something funky) The clouds, yeah a good sign too - shows that there is some moisture up there. On the whole, not the easiest photo to analyse, but it does tell us your phone and internet is working. Sounds like you’re ready, should a storm come along
  12. You’re brave I dunno if it’s worth it tbh as there is a decent chance we will miss out completely, although there’s also pretty good odds we will get something as it gets dark. Which area you headed to?
  13. Been here - loved it. There’s also Sark which has no cars on it. Best view of the night sky I’ve seen
  14. I always see your name and think Wimbledon, lol im pretty sure wales was never really in it for tonight. Good luck though - things can and do change on a hair these days You’re just being negative for the sake of it now
  15. From all the forecasts I saw you were never really in with much of a shout. Perhaps this morning but that was fairly contentious. we were in this boat last week, now 7 days later we are on the zone … it totally can happen keep faith!
  16. That’s a big ladder That’s always a risk. If it stays isolated and doesn’t become an MCS then others should slide up to the south of it as the evening progresses.
  17. There is no bust! Look at Brest! (Stop it!) This morning always always a bonus prize, we had significant rain so I wouldn’t call it anything other than a difficult forecast which did materialise as most expected. The activity this afternoon is what’s important
