  1. The Sunderland council website is poor when trying to find out if schools are are closed, I eventually found via https://www.sun-fm.com/schools/school-closures/ if anyone needs an update - I'm surprised that many more are still reported as open, noticed GoNortheast buses have cancelled services too - not much snow fell over Sunderland, (well not where I'm situated ) over night
  2. I been checking quite often on accuweather to see when the snow is heaviest over Sunderland ... I reckon it's confusing the stars for snow not much happening here
  3. I wonder if many local schools will now decide to close tomorrow and Wednesday on the strength of those met office amber warnings ? ...it would certainly put me back in my daughter's 'good book' after my recent comments that she will be most likely having a couple of snow days
  4. nothing of note to report in Sunderland ...haven't seen one flake yet my youngest has given me a weary look as I mentioned last week there may be school closures ... wish I'd kept quiet
  5. I s'pose the other thing to consider if the weather event is as disruptive as some of the forecasters suggest, then power outages from the extra gas/electric demand could be a possibility - so put more food in the cupboard (and don't open the freezer)maybe the way forward
  6. If the roads become unusable for a while then Tesco will eventually run out of fresh supplies - I'd say put a few extra items in the cupboard and freezer
  7. Sunderland often seems to miss out on the more extreme weather (well to my perspective) ...albeit I reckon that'll change over the next couple of weeks
  8. yes off topic apologies - I'm a complete novice weather wise in regards to charts etc, but the last few days have been compelling reading! I have learned quite a bit so thank you to all the posters and informative post - when the site went offline ... just glad your back on - thanks!!! feel free to delete if not appropriate
  9. I've just mentioned on social media that a very cold period is heading our way, for Sunderland and the north east with the potential for snow etc, the post was ridiculed by a few asking if I'm 'a Daily Express reader' (as if !) and the other response 'there's nothing on the BBC site or app' ... now I hope the easterly beast comes along and bites those doubters on the ass
  10. Paris looks good at the moment http://www.citycams.tv/en/france/paris-eiffel-tower/
  11. tis a shame I was really hoping for a repeat performance as like this morning
  12. May I ask (as I'm a complete novice but really interested) is that a glitch in the software that records the storms or another technical term for a type lightning? thanks
  13. Someone yesterday posted the link to this fascinating site http://www.lightningmaps.org/realtime?lang=en thanks for that! found it mesmerising to watch the storms gradually move across Northern Europe -now as these current storms shown below in the captured image I was wondering on the significance in the varied length and direction of the green lines ? they also seem to join onto green dots on the map Is a there any reason for this ? Apologies if it's a dumb question - I'm a complete novice albeit enthralled by storms
  14. impressive http://www2.nijmegen.nl/bezoek/fotofilmwebcam/webcam_waalkade
  15. Likewise just down the coast a bit in Sunderland- rather drab but nothing extreme happening
