  1. Morning folks, well the weather is certainly looking interesting again over the next few days with the primary concern over later on today and more particularly tomorrow with some torrential rain and widespread Gales or even Severe Gales. Looks like tomorrow's low pressure system could pack quite a punch with widespread 50-60mph across Southern England and Wales and the possibility of 70mph+ in central and Northern England and southern Scotland. I'm very surprised that the Met Office haven't seen it fit to give it the Clodagh title yet. :cc_confused:  :cc_confused:

  2. Afternoon folks, well I don't know if we had any snow here during the night but it was lashing down with rain a little earlier and throughout the morning the wind considerably picked up and as I ventured out to collect something from the post office I certainly got a nasty shock to the system when I felt that northerly blowing straight through me, I had my thick winter coat on too but it still made me shudder   :cold: it's quite strong too probably gusting 40-50mph at times as a guess.

  3. Evening folks I've not been on here since Barney left us, not a lot to report here a very brief spell of 50-60mph gusts at around 9 to 10pm'ish and as I left for work yesterday morning there was a small tree that had been uprooted just around the corner from us and had smashed through someone's front drive plastic fence. Whoever compared it to 2002 must have been experiencing far far worse winds then we got here the other night because 2002 was far more severe from what I remember, we had gusts in the 70-80mph range for a good few hours that morning, I was only about 15/16 but I remember it well and the one a couple of years before that which happened during the night and was even stronger and by far the most intense storm I can recall with regular gusts of 80-90mph at one stage I'd say they weren't far off 100mph. I'm surprised it didn't do a lot more damage then it did. St'Jude seemed to do quite a lot of damage even though we only officially recorded gusts into the 60's and it was a lot more short lived. To me Barney was nothing more then an ordinary autumnal Gale, but I know it was worse in other places especially in Ireland and west Wales!

  4. Well, glad to say that I made it home safely! Those winds were vicious though! Cycling home was tricky and the train from Didcot to Oxford was an eventful ride. Were stopped at a red signal for 30 mins due to a fallen tree on the line! Was certainly a potent system. A case of blink and you'll miss it though, the high winds only lasted around 6 hours here.

Well that's normal for most storms I think, St Jude was alot more of a case and blink and you'll miss it. It barely lasted an hour lol.

I hope always for a decent storm be it thunder, snow or wind, when one finally arrives the trees opposite come down   Neighbours car and house - direct impact, there are 4 more to go... i am praying for no wind now  :help:

Jeez man, you're just up the road from me too. I bet it was howling across the top of Warley Hill last night.

  5. What are you talking about? I replied to AdamStorm who was suggesting that the naming of Barney wasn't justified (see quote below) becasue the winds weren't that strong in his location and I was merely pointing out how severe it had been away from his location and also Abigail's named status was warranted, meaning the naming of these two storms is justified...

It's a moderate storm here now lol. A strong Gale but nothing exceptional or particularly damaging, maybe a few branches down in the morning or a small tree and a few fence panels blown through!

  6. Well if the worst is over that wasn't much of a storm, about as menacing as the cute and cuddly dinosaur of the same name. A sustained spell of 60mph+ gusts might have been worthy of giving Storm status but please Met Office if we're going to start giving storm names every time anything more then a strong breeze comes through then we've all turned abit soft. Most we've had here is the odd 50mph gust!

  7. Hmmm ... just waiting.

A minute ago there were a couple of impressive wind gusts here in Chatham ... and now just now another. I hope that means the wind is increasing once again? ;)

Our gusts are literally in sync with each other we just had those gusts too lol. Picking up again now, this has been a very stop / starter storm so far but as yet nothing much above 45mph here I'd say.

  8. It's not looking like a really bad storm but it will take one loose branch overhanging a railway line to bring huge parts of the SE to a halt in the morning.

The worst of it hasn't arrived yet here in Essex, it'll ramp up after about 8 o'clock then there'll be 3 or 4 hours of Severe Gales.

  9. The air pressure is currently 990mb here, with winds gusting into the low 40s mph. Nothing too severe yet, but the Met predict that 21:00-00:00 will be the period of heaviest winds here. If it get's exciting, I might make a video in a bit.

Problem is though you'd need night-vision. I think we're expecting the peak winds about the same time as you!

  10. Seem to be having some strong gusts but also some quite long lulls. Right now, this is nothing more than an ordinary windy westerly down here in Devon.

Same here in Essex, occasional 35-40mph gusts but then like 5 to 10 minute lulls in between. I still think the strongest of the winds are a few hours away though.
