Sheffield Shield activating this lunch time after letting a short sharp shower through. Hence it was a case of looking at distant dark clouds which looked thundery and the odd light rain shower here. Hopefully better tomorrow but annoying the old shield is alive and well.
A very mild day with sunny spells and light showers the Sheffield shield activating to prevent any stormy showers from approaching.

Sunny Sheffield having a fairly mild day cloudy at first now sunny spells and showers.

Temp 0.3C low 0C, Barometer 1002mb falling rapidly, Rainfall 16.8mm including snow
Local forecast has changed back to Snow. Raining at five o'clock snowing at six. So in two hours it's managed to dump 5.5Cm of snow.
A pleasant surprise to wake up to.
We are not at 250 metres
Okay doke my take of things. Head for North Yorkshire and north England as those areas should do well. For Sheffield Rotherham very little chance in the way of Snow and if you want too see it head on up into hills. May turn to sleet at times or wet snow lower down in the heavier bursts in the early hours otherwise rain. The problem is that we will depending on the rain to be heavy. If it's light kiss it all good night. Better in Leeds Bradford still marginal but if the rain is heavy it should do the trick more easily than further south. Wouldn't be surprised to see the higher areas to get a slushy covering at snow before it disappears rapidly in the morning. Met office forecast shows sleet for Leeds and Bradford which isn't so positive. Whatever you do don't sleep in folks.
Those in North Yorkshire lucky so and so's
Just popped in the south western region and nothing being posted in there which indicates just the wet stuff and no snow. Nothing in the Welsh discussion. So unless they are all getting typsy in the pub it's just brollies at the moment.
One bit of good news the temps are lower than GFS has forecast bad news forecast updated and back to sleet it did show snow briefly again today.
Sunny Sheffield finished on 3.7C -2.6C below average. Average max 6.9C -3.0C below normal. Average min 0.5C -2.3C below average. Rainfall 138.3mm 217.1% of average Strange to have such a cold month a wet month as well. 2nd wettest for us on record since 1955
Had a quick look earlier and things looked a bit more favorable will look again when GFS finishes it's run. There does seem a bit of a timing issue between local forecast and GFS where the local forecast was a good four hours difference.
Just to let you it's sleeting here.
My thoughts so far for Sheffield rain and perhaps some sleet at first this changing rapidly to rain. So a wet night and day for Sunny Sheffield. The place really to be is north Yorkshire you should get a covering and this should last a fair while. Further south than that probably more sleet than snow away from the higher ground and will be turning to rain during the morning. North Yorkshire should see it turning to rain around lunch time.
GFS has the front coming in much quicker than shown on the met app. If it is correct rain should arrive sometime after nine tomorrow evening. Just had a look at John Holmes guide and we now have a marginal situation where earlier yesterday we didn't. By morning it will be rain for all though and if we're very lucky may scrape a few hours may scrape a few hours overnight although this very small chance and more likely in the peak district. Chances still very small and the next few runs may swing either way.
