  1. Morning all, Up early trawling through snow forecast.com and Malcolm's model analysis seems spot on. There is snow in the forecast for France for Monday and Tuesday next week. Avoiraz could get 24cm+, Chamonix possibly 20cm+. Other French resorts don't do as well but at this point theres plenty of time for change. I myself am due to head off on the 7th January, but at this stage a decision still hasn't been made as to the location. A tiny bit troublesome........
  2. Very mild cloudy start. Currently 11c with a southerly breeze. Windows open to air the house again......
  3. Perhaps it would've been better to state "06z, a crazy outlier would be deadly extreme for parts of the UK". The Highlanders are a hardy breed, some of whom enjoy a sub arctic climate, wouldn't be to bothered driving around in snow or putting up with sub -20c temperatures.......they're used to it. It wasn't that long ago we had winter 2009/10 up this part of the world, everyone coped and just got on with it.
  4. Indeed, outbreaks of foaming at the mouth and tedious refrences to 1947, 1962 and 2010 being banded about. We might see world records being broken for toy throwing later on.
  5. Stay positive! Back in March 2015 I came off the snowboard at speed at Les Arcs and landed heavily on my right knee. I was carted off to accident and emergency at the nearest town, with my knee the size of a small football, and was told that i'd either broken or dislocated my knee cap. Had initial inspection, x-rays etc which fortunately confirmed no break or dislocation, I then had an appointment booked with a consultant 48 hours later. Turns out the consultant looked after the French olympic ski team and was an absolute star. He explained I'd been very lucky and there was no damage to my ACL or MCL. Chin up!
  6. The 7th of January, the date that currently has the model thread foaming at the mouth, is the day I will be on a euro bound plane. This will of course be the rare occasion the models verify with yours truly stuck at Aberdeen airport. Surely not.....surely not >.<
  7. A euphoric model thread this evening. 1947, 1963 and perhaps shades of 1966! 10 day's out but what could possibly go wrong??
  8. If its snow you're after, how about a New years day walk down Aviemore. The forecast, at this time, is for snow through the day with highs of 2c.
  9. The boxing day snow has allowed both the Lecht and Cairngorm to offer, albeit limited snow sports. The webcams show just how marginal the decision to open must have been.
  10. The latest models downgrade is also reflected in the various forecasts this morning. Still the chance of wintry showers for NE Scotland.
  11. If this bug/virus thing starts off with a sore throat with cold like symptoms not far behind, it might prove a bugger to shift. Week 5 for me with this nonsense. In other news, the Model thread seems to have gone pear shaped again in the last hour or so. Struggling to work out why.......
  12. I've been taking a keener interest in the model thread today ever since snow started to appear in the Mets forecasts for New years eve/day. Aviemore, Braemar and my own location, to name a few, are in the firing line........at this time.
  13. January 2017 might be a snowless affair for the vast majority if the latest Meto outlook proves accurate..
  14. Winter walks are always more enjoyable in the snow. Corrennie forest, looking the part earlier on this morning...
  15. Morning, hope the hangovers aren't to bad. Woke up to heavy snow and a welcome white landscape this morning. Looking at the sky, I suspect there's a lot more to come. Fairly gusty already making it feel raw outside.
  16. Cold, windy with heavy snow showers that's lying. Couple of cm so far. Currently 1c.
  17. Bad week continues for the music business, George Michael died today aged 53.
  18. Aye aye, sleets hammering against the windows now and the winds picked up again. Better have another drink in case the power goes out.
  19. Looking festive over Braemar. Snows forecast to hit here around 2am......that'll be rain then.
  20. Very mild here today as well, not quite reaching your tropical temperature over in Kemnay, but still like summer at 13c. All change later on today as you rightly point out and what could be a decent snowy boxing day morning. BBC weather: Yellow warning of snow From: 0200 on Mon 26 December To: 1300 on Mon 26 December Updated 2 hours ago Frequent, blustery showers will fall as snow above about 150 m, and as a mixture of rain, sleet and snow to lower levels. Gusts of wind of 40-50 mph, and much more on high ground, will lead to temporary blizzard conditions at times. Fresh snow accumulations of 5-10 cm are expected above about 200 m, and of 10-15 cm above about 400 m. At low levels a couple of cm may accumulate locally, with icy patches on untreated surfaces. Please be aware of the risk of hazardous driving conditions and disruption to transport. As for the state of the Scottish hills, what a diffrence a day makes from Polar Ms post yesterday: http://www.cairngormmountain.org/base-station-webcam/ The Lecht, which was looking very snowy last night, has sadly suffered the same fate overnight. Back to the drawing board.....
  21. Merry Christmas everyone! Very mild start to the day with strong s/w winds producing some impressive gusts at times. Winter is forecast to return tomorrow up here with wintry showers, heavy snow for some, strong winds and temperatures at or near freezing. Factor in that wind and it's going to be cold. A day to air the house! Currently 13c
  22. Chilly, windy start to the day with wintry showers, which are falling as snow on the surrounding hills around 300m ASL. Currently 1*C
