En route to Penzance from Oxfordshire. Now in Taunton. Weather has been varying degrees of wet from mist to heavy showers. Not greatest driving conditions so this could be a long journey .

Very heavy rain down here and strong winds , had to prop up fence with large paving slab Going up A34 earlier did not expect such bad weather. Did the 'core' go further south then expected ?
I was wondering if what we experienced was due to a secondary low?? Like I said it wasn't what we'd expected.

None of the storms have had an impact on London & SE all predominately being northern/western affairs with the jet stream going S this may change.
The focus draws to Southern England the SW in particular.
I'm 40 miles west of London and we've had a noisy day. Yet my family in London tell me it's 'just been a bit windy'!

what impacts have you had?
Mainly from the wind. A couple of fence panels have gone and some roofing felt has gone from my shed. Small branches are down. It seems fairly local. Eight miles down the road there's no sign of a storm at all.
-
The storm had the biggest impacts of any of the six so far here! And it wasn't forecast to do so. Just goes to show how difficult it is to forecast storms

My opinion....from a one side I'm quote glad of a mild winter. The OH works outdoors and light already curtails his hours this time of year, so we're quite happy for the grass to keep growing!! However, this year seems to have been one continuous season of yuk. I'd rather see a few weeks in the 80s for summer, a few weeks above freezing for winter and the rest of the year an ambient 60!

32/50 mph. Winds dropped dramatically with arrival of rain

Sustained winds around 30mph aren't even gale force, some areas have seen mean speeds 40-50mph or more with higher gusts. As a general rule the Met Office issue wind warnings when there is high enough risk of gusts exceeding 60mph towards 70mph depending on the size of area likely to experience impacts, this can be flexed at their discretion, for example when the trees are in full leaf when lesser velocity wind speeds have potential to cause more damage. A 50mph wind gust exerts around 48 kg/m2 onto a flat surface, adding just 20mph onto that a 70mph wind will exert 96 kg/m2 so double the force for just 20mph increase... 100mph sees that force raised to almost 200kg/m2.
Ah thanks. True enough the trees aren't in leaf but we have had damage to the fence and shed roof. Sustained winds between 30 and 36 this morning according to local met office stats. It's by far the strongest winds we've had this winter and we've had warning for the previous storms which was why it surprised me.

Nice video from Tramore
Good grief!

It's not slack here!
-
Still no sign of it dying down. Gust of 55 mph recently
-
Really surprised we've had no warning for wind in CS England. Winds have been sustained at 30mph+ for a few hours now. Recent gust of 55 mph and there seems to be no sign of it dying down !!!

I'm as far inland as you can get and we've had sustained winds of 30 mph + for the last couple of hours. Mainly gusting high 40s but at least a couple of 50 +. Far windier than expected/ forecast. Still dry here though
-
Far windier here than forecast/expected. 37/54 mph which is 10 more than MetO forecast. I'm as far inland as you can get so I dread to think what exposed coasts are getting

Network Rail advise not to travel in W Yorkshire tomorrow unless absolutely necessary. I know some of the lines in Leeds are flooded.
Thank you

I'm also very anxious about very windy weather.I carry meds with me if stormy weather is forecast, but I'm slowly improving. I avoid the Atlantic storm thread unless I see a weather warning from the met and then I arm myself with as much info as possible. The last time I struggled was Valentines day 2014 but I just about coped with the rest of that winter. I feel for you, but I also understand lots of people love extreme weather in all it's forms
