  1. Very chuffed with last night with the snow cover, there has been a gradual thaw from mid day with not much snow left. Temps have been close to 3C today so no surprise to see a thaw. As others have said we needed clear skies last night after the snow and I bet there would have been an ice day despite blue skies. The sun isn't really gaining much strength yet until mid-late Feb to effect snow on the ground so with an ice day there wouldn't have been much of a thaw if any. Probably only roofs but that's mainly peoples heating/poor loft insulation.
  2. Why is it so snowless where you are? I used to work with someone from there who said even in 1962-63 all they had was a few patches of snow.
  3. For some strange reason here in west Oldham borough has copped it so far.
  4. Indeed. We've had quite a bit Scott, it wasn't looking like this 90 mins ago.
  5. It just keeps on coming!!! hopefully we will get clear skies at the end of the night for it to freeze.
  6. Not spectacular like 2010 etc but not a bad covering here. Still coming down quite heavily.
  7. Them masts on Winter hill - one of their uses must be a snow deflector when snow moves SE wards.
  8. Looks like Billinge hill will be a place to be for picture postcards in the morning. Must be a decent covering there now.
  9. Pennines to our north above Bury/Rochdale might be blocking some of it.
  10. Snowing here but really not heavy enough to give any significant increase in snow cover. Only just starting to cover places that thawed.
  11. If anything the band to the north looks like it has weakened a bit.
  12. Yes not significant though. Just light on the pavements, road and slightly on the grass.
  13. In 2013 a similar situation happened, central, eastern & northern areas of Manchester got decent snow cover but southern areas missed out on most of it yet there is not a massive difference in elevation. Must be a reason for it, perhaps the ground is just simply a bit colder a few miles north? or something else like topography is involved.
  14. Sticking here and flakes getting bigger, feeling happy
  15. Light snow here. Nothing too exciting at the moment.
  16. Uh oh....... SE breeze tomorrow night means hardly any snow for most of Greater Manchester. Unless there is another mechanism that will help it be different?
  17. Interestingly the Met office now have me under for snow for the early hours of Sunday, it will probably be gone tomorrow but it must tie in with the euro4. Just a few hours ago the forecast showed clear skies.
  18. Too far east here for any snow tonight. Ruddy hell last night was too marginal and tonight I'm too far east, which ironically usually helps with cold/snow
  19. Some beefy showers moving into the Wirral/Merseyside right now.
