  1. You're probably right Knocker , seeing as the Industrial Revolution was around the 1830/40s a lot of crud has gone into the atmosphere in the last 170 odd years. What interests me though is how science explains the causes of the Medieval warming period of approx 1200/1500 which was then followed by the Little Ice age of 1500/early 1840s , obviously there was.nt the CO2 in the atmosphere during the Middle Ages.
  2. Nothing wrong with recycling in itself, as you say it's common sense , on the other hand its also the perfect excuse to make a bit more money out of the mug general public , whist at the same time reducing the service they provide.
  3. I don't dispute the fact that the earth is warming, as to the cause that in my opinion is debatable , I do get a tad cynical when I see local authorities making large amounts of money from recycling whilst doing it from the high moral sanctimonious standpoint of "we're trying to save the planet". I;ve yet to see any tangible reduction in council tax as a result of all this extra revenue. They have turned their constituents into unpaid rag and bone men
  4. There would be a lot cold, cold people around these days , insofar as most homes have only got central heating, have a power cut following a blizzard, and you;re knackered , no electricity = no boiler. Back in those days and into the early 80s most of us still had openfires, so you could still keep reasonably warm, even if it was just in the living room . We've got a stove and open fire, and I wouldn't be without them.
  5. Just watched a pleasant young lady on the t.v telling me that I am going to have yet another crap weekend. Don't know if it's my imagination, but I swear they almost look pleased about it sometimes.
  6. Built 1 house, an extension , and a garage in Priddy , Reg Payne used to live in the one in the background
  7. Got to be honest I've just about done with this useless apology for winter, I m fully aware that we have maritime climate ,and that it is further modified by the gulf stream, but even taking all that into account, this has been particularly dire. We have struggled to even get a few half decent frosts let alone snow. I don't even particularly crave snow , just a couple of cold ,sunny settled weeks would do me, but even that's just about impossible to achieve. We really do constantly get the sh...t end of the stick summer and winter. Whatever reasons people are clamoring to migrate here ,it can't be for the weather.
  8. 2030 ? !!! kin great I'll be 70 that is if I haven't turned up my toes in the meantime
  9. It's all like the Emperors new clothes, just one big poxy illusion
  10. This boring, depressing apology for a winter reminds me of watching my Jack Russell chase it's tail, he almost grabs it but it always just eludes him. We certainly get the worst of both worlds in this country, wet mild winters , and cool wet summers. It wont be long now before you will see all the garden centres with their outdoor furniture and bbqs on display at exorbitant prices trying to lure some poor sod into spending a fortune on stuff that's going to sit in the shed all summer.
  11. I've noticed that there seems to be some sort of lag effect on our seasons, in recent years, everything appears to be running a couple of months behind where they should be
  12. This winter is like a bl...dy stuck record, starting to get right on my nerves
  13. Couldn't agree more ,just as well that there's a bit more going for it than the weather.
  14. Sometimes I think that myself ,and probably others don't look for snow so much, but search more for a change from the mind numbing blandness of our godforsaken climate , all year round. even the Romans commented on it 1700 years ago , they thought that it was crap as well
  15. February 1978 delivered a good blizzard down here around about the 16th if I remember correctly. I may be wrong , but I don't recall Dec 77 or January being that cold, so stranger things have happened.
  16. I must admit I've enjoyed the past couple of days , a good sharp frost, and bright sunny days, makes you feel better in yourself. How anyone can say that they prefer Atlantic driven mild crap is totally beyond me. It's about as much use to anyone as a marzipan crowbar
  17. Jay Wynn on Country File says temps back up to 11or 12 by Friday, looked as pleased as punch about it
  18. Reasonably cold ,crisp sunny days and frosty nights, does me for now. Still plenty of time for something more potent further along the line. Got to be better than the s...it December served up.
  19. Liking the look of the charts today, proper seasonal temperatures and a rest from the relentless Atlantic crap of the past 2 months. Not too worried about snow myself, won;'t complain if we get some Would be nice for the youngsters to see a good helping though,
  20. Some cold dry frosty days will do me just fine, got a couple of bags of coal and a full wood store bring it on.
  21. Agree completely, I am a time served bricklayer , and in the past have done jobs for people who, because they have gone to B/Q and bought a trowel and spirit level, have thought that they are "experts", the same applies in this case, People like Ian are professionals within their chosen field, and to have to read some of the half baked drivel must be insulting to say the very least.
  22. Quite agree, I have learned an awful lot just by reading various posts. I can honestly say that just by doing this I have a better understanding of meteorology than for example the people with whom I work.
  23. I have no doubt that the climate is getting warmer, for me the cynicism creeps in when I see local authorities, governments, and individuals taking a high moral stance by claiming that they are " trying to save the planet" whilst making a fortune out of the general public at the same time by increased charges and taxes on this, that, and everything else ,a lot of people are making a lot of money out of all this.
  24. I suppose it's a case of it seeming like people who like mild weather having their preference 99% of the time, and any hint of cold weather being begrudged to anyone else
