  1. Some dry cold sunny weather at the tail end of Autumn, I'm not complaining, and as S.B has just said winter has to start yet, (21st December in my book ) Plenty of time for something interesting. .
  2. I have visions of certain members of the BBC weather team looking pig sick as they do the forecasts next week
  3. It might have been mild today, but in every other respect the weather was gash,bl'''dy impossible to get any work done
  4. 2nd load of logs put away , ready for winter now, and best of all British Gas can go swivel
  5. A tad nippy starting work at 8am' but so much better than the usual ,mild cloudy, dross that seems to be normal for these parts.
  6. I can recall Dec 81 being cold, as was the beginning of January 85 .
  7. Cold and dry,or mild and dry, I really don't mind , it's just the poxy rain that really gets me down.
  8. Some nice cold, bright, frosty days an nights would be great I must admit a bit of snow wouldn't go amiss, especially for the youngsters.
  9. Tend to agree with you , it's the sheer bland mediocrity of our climate that gets under my skin half of the time.
  10. Matt H tried to make the best of it with today's weather headline, trouble is , you can't polish a turd.
  11. June and first part of July not too bad here, since then absolutely gash. Roll on Autumn , at least I expect this sort of useless cr...p then
  12. Always a bit of a problem doing face brickwork or laying natural stone when it's raining, , especially when the mortar runs all over the face of your work
  13. Another days work down the pan, although it's not such a problem these days without the commitments that I had when I was younger . Expect it in Autumn and Winter , bloody frustrating in the Summer.
  14. I think that it is all relative to where you live, over in the S/E and E , the better chance of heat in the summer , and cold/snow in the winter. Here in the S W/ N/W wet in the Summer , Wet in the winter.,Around here you can very easily have a crap summer followed by an equally crap winter
  15. Should like to have seen some snow, but the fact that it's been drier than average has been a bonus in my book. Cold / dry or warm / dry I'll take either , just as long as it's not poxy rain.
  16. I must admit I'm getting a bit jaded with it now , . Just as an aside , I watched Louise Lear give out the forecast at lunchtime, she looked like she wanted to throw up or cry when describing the winds and temps for the next few days.
  17. That's a bit too cold thanks very much. Back in 82 I was 22 , if I recall correctly it was around freezing all day with a bitter wind chill . These days I am 57 , and on blood thinners et al following a heart attack , I feel it a hell of a lot more now.
  18. This is the chart for 7th Jan 82, in all my years in the building trade I cannot ever recall being as cold as I was that day. If this spell rivals that , then I think that I will stay at home
  19. Don't get me wrong , I still love it myself, I do think though that a great percentage of the population wouldn't know what had hit them.
  20. Back in those days most homes were heated by open coal fires, if you lost your power you could still keep warm. These days most homes rely on central heating,no electricity = no pumps or power to fire it up . There would be a lot of very cold people about. One of the reasons why we have a wood burner and open fire, there's no way that I'm going to rely on that bunch of spivs at the Gas companies, or Mr Putin to keep me warm.
  21. I know what you mean Pete, It's up and down like a yo yo in there. I must admit I hope the youngsters get some snow, for myself , cold and dry will do me fine , in the absence of any white stuff . The halting of any mild wet Atlantic onslaught is good news in my book
  22. I don't pretend to know much about interpreting charts etc, although I know a lot more now thanks to this forum. The way that I see it is a week or two ago some were writing February off as being zonal, now we have a half decent cold spell coming up . As I have said before , all we are looking at with the models is a computer generated prediction of what might happen nothing more. Sometimes I think that we were better off in terms of our sanity when we used to wait for the Country File forecast on Sunday lunchtimes. Always a bit of excitement when the presenter used to intimate that things were going to turn colder at the end of the week ahead. Sometimes it happened , sometimes it did'nt.
  23. Can't complain about the last few days, brilliant sunshine , and frosty, 100 times better than the usual mild Atlantic driven crap that we are usually saddled with around here.
  24. My mate just sent me a video from Murcia in Spain , it's snowing hard there , I'd laugh if it wasn't so sad.
  25. Too right, the amount of time , and money that I've lost over the years during wet mild winters just doesn't bear thinking about.
