I have been following the model thread for some time, and have been really impressed by the input, and depth of knowledge by some of the posters such as Steve Murr, Catcol, 62/63 et al. also Knockers analysis is always objective and concise
The possible effects from the SSW have always been predicted to take effect from around the end of January , yet some are winding themselves up and others over every run.
God knows how they would have got on in the 80's when all you had was the Country File Forecast on a Sunday Lunchtime.
Remember it well especially the end of year blizzard . I can vividly recall following a snow blower for about 3 miles on my Yamaha Rd 250 with the snow piled up on either side of the road.
Have to agree, mild weather, especially here in the S.W nearly always means rain and wind, about as much use as t...ts on a bull, when it's cold and sunny at least you have useable weather. Unfortunately, weather presenters etc these days seem to always want to try and put a positive spin on things. At the end of the day you can't polish a t..rd.
Approaching 60 I've been lucky to have experienced a few classic winters, I for one ,certainly don't begrudge the youngsters some snow if it comes along. Frosty settled weather will do for me as well , anything except this relentless wind , rain and mild crud. Rant over , Merry Christmas to all.
I've already dug out my Kipper tie and flares Pete, mnd you, I would probably look as bg a tw......t in them now as I did back then.
Hope you are keeping well.
Personally I hope we keep things as they are as regards putting the clocks back/forward At the end of the day you can't change our position on the globe ,and what you think you are gaining with one hand you lose with the other It certainly would'nt do Scotland any favours. I can recall the last time they tried it between 1968 and 71 ,if it had been any good they would have carried on with it.
I don't profess to know a lot about interpreting the models etc. I leave that to the knowledgeable folk on here , but my opinion for what it's worth is any sort of respite from this awful Atlantic driven crud is more than welcome, and as f far as I'm concerned Winter starts on Dec 21st despite the Met offices love for tidy statistical purposes. Plenty of time for proper winter weather yet, bitterly cold weather before Christmas is like looking for Lord Lucan riding around on Shergar.
Sounds very much like my childhood in the 60's,single glazing, no central heating and one coal fire. Our woodburner has had a few logs on it this evening though.
Best that I can really recall was 78/79, closely followed by 81/2, I can remember 62/3 ,but not with the same detail,
The worst, too many to mention, but 87/88 and 13/14 spring to mind as being particularly crap,
