  1. Had my cold and snow fix for this year, a warm, dry March will do me fine
  2. Summers are crap as well, great if you like rain though.
  3. Cold and dry will do me just fine thanks very much, they can shove their wind and rain.
  4. I once heard our climate described as being" Wonderfully diverse". I've since come to the conclusion that was just P. C. speak for s.... t.
  5. Had a couple of days of lying snow back in January, and now a reasonably cold week, so I'm fairly happy, starting back to work after my two month hibernation. As long as its reasonably dry, and not pi... ing down for weeks on end, I'll be ok with that.
  6. With this weather insides the best place to be upon Mendip, remember my Dad telling me that during the winter of 62/3 we were living in Shipham, and that the local authority took over the firm he was working for. They had to clear snow by hand ,with little mechanical help ,from Longbottom right through to Charterhouse, he said that as fast as they were clearing it ,it was blowing back in .Apparently ,he developed pneumonia as a result . Remember two old Priddy blokes telling me years ago, the seasons on Mendip are 6 weeks in front , 6 weeks behind, and an overcoat colder. Having worked there during winter on more than one occasion, I can well believe it.
  7. Don't generally mind a bit of snow as a rule BB, but this year I'll settle for my vaccine, and uninterrupted distribution.
  8. Sometimes I think that you've got more chance of seeing Lord Lucan ride by on Shergar.
  9. Once upon a time you watched the Farmers forecast on Country file which was aired on a Sunday lunchtime. If cold weather was forecast, you just waited to see if it came off. These days, every model run is dissected, its like going to a sadistic dentist, and having a tooth pulled over a 10 day period.
  10. Places like Clevedon, and Weston S M have always struggled, come about 20 odd miles inland , with a bit of elevation ,and it's a different story altogether,
  11. A month of sunny, frosty weather weather would suit me fine Having to listen to some clown telling me that it's going to p.. S down in one breath, but don't worry it'll be 11 degrees in another is getting on my nerves.
  12. Given your location legritter, I'd be inclined to pitch a tent up at Crooks Peak if it's snow you're after the way things are going on
  13. It's called polishing a t... rd, they've had years of practice. Take your point though, dry and cold is infinatly preferable to relentless wind and rain.
  14. Here in Somerset our best falls have always come from the combination of a very cold E/NE air source meeting a push from the Atlantic. Rare I'll grant you, but really delivers when it happens.
  15. Watching events unfold with interest, personally I don't mind which way it goes, in the grand scheme of things at the moment it's not that important. One thing I will say is that during my 60 odd years, I can count the number of truly memorable /severe winters on the fingers of 2 hands. That must tell you something. The weather in this country is bland at best, and c.. p at worst.
  16. Plenty of other winters where people would have sold their Granny for charts half as good as that.
  17. About 8 or 9 degrees with rain on and off here in Shepton today, got a feeling all that is about to change during the next week or so .
  18. I can vaguely remember 62/63, but the ones that really stick in my mind are the ones from the late 70s through the 80s mainly because I had to work outside for 8 hours a day. 78/9, 81/2 and 87 were bl.. dy freezing. No question of staying off of work, had a mortgage to pay, and a young family to look after. I've always maintained, poncing around in it for a couple of hours is one thing, working in it is quite another. At 61, those days are thankfully gone now, still enjoy a good snowfall though, much better looking at it through my lounge window.
  19. Normally the Met O only fully commit themselves at the point that their cars are stuck in the car park.
  20. Remember it well, started on a Saturday evening, the wind was absolutely howling, we had hedge high drifts here in Somerset
  21. Freezing fog for best part of the day here in Shepton Mallet. Very sharp frost this morning .
  22. Remember that well, I take your point though re the vaccination programme, I like a bit of snow as much as the next guy, but this year we'd be better off with cold ,dry weather simply for the logistics of the vaccination roll out. We don't need excessively wet weather either as that will bring it's own problems with regard to flooding. I don't care how cold it gets, as long as it stays dry.
