  1. Yep, and when the Ferret decided to lie up, and you had to dig the little beggar out
  2. I was telling my lads about when I would go out rabbiting with a ferret and a dozen nets when I was a teenager. Later on , in the 80's, I would go out with a 12 bore on a Saturday morning and shoot 2 or 3 for the week. Money was tight with 2 kids and a mortgage ,you just done whatever it took to get by.
  3. Went out and about yesterday for a few hours, picked up a van load of Ash, Oak, Hazel, and Hawthorne. All just lying around on the verge and in the hedges. The oak had the bark hanging off of it, just needs to dry out now it's been split.
  4. Nothing like a bit of free heat. Have chainsaw , will travel.
  5. I know what you mean, we've got a woodstove, I bought one load of logs for 70 quid back in June, and thereafter I've been out and about in my van with a 30 inch Bow saw, and chainsaw, and picked up fallen limbs from the verges etc. It's been enough to keep us ticking over generally, but if there's a chance the fire will be lit most of the day, I may have to bite the bullet and get another dumpy bag full.
  6. Even if we just end up with an average winter, I reckon anther load of logs wouldn't go amiss.
  7. Apparently Darren Betts was spotted kicking the office cat, there must be something brewing
  8. Even back in December 78,it was cold at the beginning of the month, but the real deal didn't arrive until around New year's eve.
  9. I'll settle for dry, sunny, cold and frosty thanks
  10. I remember Dec 76 , my first winter at work. As an aside, at nearly 63, after over 30 odd years I have kicked the Building Trade into touch. No more getting wet and cold. lovely !!.
  11. Shan't be sorry to see the back of this poxy rain, at least various individuals have stopped carping on about droughts though.
  12. Nice to wake up to a frost, and sunshine this morning.
  13. Our central heating will only go on for an hour when we get up , and that's it . We'll just be using the Wood burner at other times. I'll work it into those robbing b..,,,ds every way that I can. At least Dick Turpin wore a mask when he turned people over.
  14. Never mind snow. I'd settle for a half decent frost at the moment.
  15. Sat in the lounge with the woodstove going , nice and comfortable. Managed to pick up some lengths of Ash and Sycamore on the way home from work yesterday , another 50 or so logs to the stack.
  16. Poxy storms, a whole mornings work down the pan. B*****dy weather is about as reliable as a baby's backside
  17. In November 78, I was an 18 year old apprentice bricklayer, I can certainly say that winter was b****dy cold.
  18. Got the Wood burner ticking over this evening ,burnt about 3 logs ,just enough to be comfortable.
  19. This current weather pattern is about as enjoyable as watching paint dry.
  20. A cold ,frosty spell in the run up to Christmas would be good. Makes people feel better, much more preferable than trudging around shopping in 12 degrees and rain.
  21. Let's have a few frosts now, getting sick to death of mowing the lawn
  22. A trip out in the van with the chainsaw will probably be on the cards this weekend W.T, plenty of fallen limbs about on the verges if you know where to look.
  23. Wood burner on tick over this evening , a comfortable 20 degrees in the lounge.
